Fascinatingly (to me) ...
I had deviated septum and turbinate reduction surgery in July. Since then, I have done a few short, casual rides and a Zwift or two. I didn't notice much difference except that my nose would run like a faucet if it were slightly chilly and it would hurt.
I haven't ridden in about 3 weeks, so my nose has had another 3 weeks to heal, and today was warm.
When we were doing the climbs today, I realised something ... I was breathing through my right nostril! What a novel feeling! Actually getting air through both nostrils! I didn't have to breathe through my mouth as much! Climbing was slightly less painful!

Nice to have clear air and cool temps in Southern California for a change. Rode out to the harbor and back to my shop, about 22 miles.

25 miles both Friday and Saturday, easy pace, still recovering from a hard bonk during the final 10 miles of a 45 mile ride Wednesday. Not sure what happened but it was the closest I've come to walking or calling an Uber. Slept most of Thursday and took it easy on the Friday and Saturday rides.
Did 35 miles Sunday and felt like I'm getting back to normal. Took about 45 minutes just to warm up and almost gave up on the idea of doing hill intervals, but felt better after the first sprint so I kept going. Didn't set any new PRs but it's the strongest my legs have felt in weeks.
Beautiful weather too. Sunny and moderately warm days -- low 80s -- clear and comfortably cool at night. Best time of year to ride, when it isn't raining.

pretty cold on Sunday. it was around 12c and i was regretting going out. My buddy and I decided to do a Hill ride. it was only 40km but the climbs we did were pretty grueling and intense (by my standards). Zero regrets on the ride and i feel doing hill rides like that will only make me stronger in the end.

I like speed
Went out to do a quick 30 mi around the IE on Saturday. I felt great and was moving at a quicker pace than normal but I had to get back by 9AM since we needed to go get flu shots.

I had a decent ride yesterday following someone else's route on ridewithgps, but whoever built the route is awful at using the software. There were numerous times where cues were missing, a couple of times where we pointlessly changed from one road to a parallel road and then back again, and even once where the cue was simply impossible to follow (the old, "turn left off of this overpass and drop onto the road below"). I scouted the ride a few weeks ago, but apparently not combing over every detail really was a mistake. Lesson learned, I guess.
Other than the guano-insane routing, the ride was pretty good: false-flat, gaining elevation for the first 10 km, then climbing slowly for the next 5 km, and then increasing the grade for ~10 km to a peak. After the peak, the route turned around and went back to the start. We were able to stay above 30 mph for a good 3 miles or so after the midpoint, and then we stayed comfortable at 17-21 mph, as traffic dictated, for the closing stretch. This was a nice ride to shake out bike fit & fitness. The ride ended just as the temps went over 100F, so great timing, too.

anyhow, another road newbie... this weekend, did a 32 miler. 2,400 ft elevation gain... in about 2.5 hours, at a pace of about 13 mph... most elevation i've done, so i was happy with it.

Been a rough stretch to find time to ride and weather etc. Finally got two rides in this weekend. Saturday I rode to Flatwoods park for 44 miles. Sunday I went out to Thonotosassa for 40 miles. Sunday was the first windy day in a while.

With over 30 consecutive bad air days (more than double the previous record), I had reduced my riding quite a bit. Enough that the 81 miles I did on Sunday was a lot harder than expected. Was pretty beat afterwards and did not ride Monday. Did 20 miles at 5 AM this morning and felt ok. Just really happy to have some clean air for a change.
