I've been avoiding MUPs, popular routes and in-town MTB trails on weekends. This weekend I'm not even gonna ride at all. Trying to keep that flyby count low for the viral times.

I usually start a simple syrup before mixing the batter, then add blueberries and/or blackberries once the syrup is done, simmer till the syrup turns purple, then let sit while flipping those flapjacks.
If no berries I'll do maple syrup, sometimes I'll do molasses. Mmmmmmm.

We got 1.1" of rain this morning and now that it's quit, the winds have picked up to 15 mph and temp is supposed to rise from 65ş - 85ş over the next couple hours and winds over 20. I better get humping if I'm going to get a short ride in.

It was over 80 degrees when I got up at 5:30. Left for a ride before 7:00 and the cat ran out and refused to come back in. I don't usually worry about him so I gave up arguing with him and I left. Mrs John got up and let him in 2 hours later and he was quite upset and yelled at her for a while. He yelled at me when I got home, too. We gave him ice cubes.
While riding I passed a guy who was moving along pretty well before I droped the hamer on him. He had a cigarette in his mouth. Mario shows how it's done.

Rolled out at about 9:15, hoping to beat the heat. I was partially successful - there were some places that were just ridiculously hot, like 102 or so, so that even at speed it's just HOT!!. Even the bike feels HOT!! But not as hot as it's going to be!!!
Limited myself to 40 miles, discretion being the better part of valor, and didn't drope any hamers on anyone. Currently 96 outside and it's not even 1 PM so I'm pretty sure the predicted high of 98 will be exceeded by a goodly margin.

Busy day. After my ride, we went up to visit my folks in NJ. Daughter #2 came and is getting together with a couple friends who are virtual classmates. They promise to wear masks when not able to social distance. Just got home and we are bushed.

Except for the first night a second morning, the current long range forecast is looking great for my trip. About a 40% chance of showers late Saturday afternoon and again Sunday morning. About 2 miles of streets and 60 miles of trail Saturday. I’ll get an early start from the hotel. At least there are four Adirondack shelters at camp Saturday. Hope one is available. And there is a hotel just down the trail that sells showers for $10, complete with wash cloth, towel, soap and shampoo. Sunday is about 48 miles with no worry about the campground being full.

So on today’s ride a friend behind me yelled “your rear tire is flat!” It did not FEEL flat so I replied: “you sure?”
He said the center is flat and time to change tire or risk “real” flat tires.
I put the bike in the stand and I think it’s ok. The wear dimples have about 0.5mm depth still. Am I being reckless to keep riding??

When I put the bike on the stand I was half expecting to see threads or at least go on a dimple-hunt but obv that did not happen. I am thinking that tire has 1000 more miles of life. Now if I get a couple flats I may pitch it, of course.
