^^^^^^ You were just a bit ahead of the game. After ages of planning, they actually started on that "proposed" section this summer. Should extend the trail from Parkerford to Rte 422. Yes, they are laying pavement. Rumors are that they will be done by the end of of the year. They've sure had the weather for it. There will still be a gap to Pottstown, about 1 mile. The workaround will still be Rte 724, but not posted 55mph.
BTW, how'd you like that hill in Phoenixville? Wicked for me but I've not walked it yet.

And yes, that is some climb, one I did not expect. Not quite trusting my drivetrain to remain in the biggest cog, I stayed seated the whole time. *urk* It was a grind, but I made it to the top.

Rode two completely different bikes in two completely contrasting locations yesterday. Finally got out to see the old mining town of Monte Cristo off the Mountain Loop Highway, then did a short jaunt on the new connector trail which links Marysville with the Centennial Trail. French dip sandwiches for dinner at Alex's place.
The MTB stuff was fun and got me thinking...

Drillium Dude Cool pictures of Monte Cristo! I have been curious about that one. It looks like it is doable on a road bike with 32-38mm tires from your pictures. What do you think?
I spent 2 nights camping on Orcas Island earlier this week. Not really much of a bike tour. I drove up to Anacortes, parking at the terminal there and taking the ferry over to Orcas.
The ferry drops me off on Orcas Island
This was a spur of the moment trip.
It is the height of the tourist season for the San Juan Islands and yet, if you travel by bike and camp you can always find a hiker/biker spot at Moran State Park but this time around I wanted to check out another more remote camp at Obstruction Pass State Park where there are just 8 spots of 9 available (the 9th, is reserved for kayakers who arrive from the water..) for anyone willing to hike a rocky and rooted foot trail a half mile down to where they are located down by the beach. I thought I’d have a pretty good chance to grab a spot mid-week and I was right.

My camp was just a short walk to the beach. Once everything was squared away, I went for a swim. I was surprised how warm the water was!

Oh, the riding was pretty good too but that camp site was the highlight of the trip!

northbend For a lot of the route, sure, one could ride a road bike with 32-38mm tires. There are a number of places you'd have to hike-a-bike (we did, too, and were on some pretty capable off-piste rigs), but you'd get there in the end. Bring a lock - there's a bike rack under a copse of trees! - and take a hike around the site for the full experience.

Light rain and wet roads this morning but I really needed to spin out yesterday's sufferfest from my legs.
I finally took my Trek out for the first time since I moved to SC in April
Thankfully it's still an absolutely lovely ride, even half a country away from where it was built up

I still ride ~60 miles a week, but it's the same ride to work and back each day. For the first time in a while, I went on a ride worth sharing here this morning. I took my not-vintage, but maybe-classic Smoothie. It is two decades old, at least.
I took a route I like through downtown Tempe to get to the Scottsdale Greenbelt. I love going up Mill Avenue before all the college kids wake up, and seeing the sun rise over Tempe Town Lake. There are usually a few scullers out on the water in the morning.
I really appreciate the below-grade crossings of major roads along the Greenbelt. The canal paths get interrupted by major roads every mile, so it's really nice to be completely out of traffic for a change. At least, normally it would be, if it wasn't for all the rain we had in the past few weeks...
Headed back south along the Crosscut canal, with Camelback in the background. I just passed the 3,000-mile mark on this bike last week. If I had to have just one bike, this is it.
I caught up with a group of about a dozen riders on Rio Salado, and passed them after we all turned south on Hardy, but they caught up with me again at a red light and said nice things about my "shiny steel" bike. Made my day.

Nice ride on County road 14 and back by way by Venture road considered on of the worst roads in Colorado but a fun ride. Took the Schwinn Mesa GSX covid clunker which is still going strong after a year of tough riding.

Beautiful day for a ride - temps in the early 80s and breezy (tailwind coming home).
Decided to ride up to Lake Eleanor, which I've seen on maps, but not in person.
When I got there, it turns out "Lake" Eleanor is nothing more than a carp-infested, dammed up drainage ditch with a bunch of fancy homes built around it.
More more satisfying was this retention pond inside a cloverleaf onto the Edens Expressway. It's half covered with water lilies and if you look close, you can see a White Egret at 10 o'clock.
My new favorite bridge that gets me across the tracks in the Mellody Farm Nature Preserve.
68 miles total as August is winding down.

Today was my first day with toe clips, straps, and cleats in probably 30 years. With Eroica coming up, I figured I better finish off the last bit of the set-up and get some practice in.
I chose a 30 mile route with a lot of lights. I was getting better by the end, but it'll take time.

It had been a while since I had taken the '76 Moto Grand Touring out (my riding is curtailed quite a bit during the Texas summers). I left the house early, and met up with our local mayor (his orange Fuji Absolute) for a spin and to check out some of the newer trails our little city is building to make it much more bike friendly. Every time I jump on this bike and spin miles, I kick myself for pulling my hybrid down as much as I do. The Moto is so smooth, climbs well, and just glides down the road or path. It's mileage will definitely ramp up as the temps start to cool as we head towards fall and winter.

Stop halfway along the coastal path.
There was a small former harbour at the stop. It has ehm... sanded.
Here you can see the 'platen' (plates?) falling dry with low tide. Birds paradise.
Water, clouds, light, wind and Campagnolo. What more do you need?

Very nice day nice ride on bike trail and back on no name road ab out 15 miles round trip. Really nice weather with some blue sky.
