I worked in a bike shop in 1973 and we sold Peugeots. They all came in that plastic wrapping, inside a box of course. That bike is indeed NOS

OK so I.m wrongs sorry. Just haven't seen a lower end bike both bagged and boxed . You would think during the bike boom price wars of the 70's makers would cut every corner and just ship minimal box.

That plastic wrapping was a cost cutting measure. Most other bikes I built had paper wrapping around the frame tubes along with all kinds of pieces of cardboard tied to the frame for protection. It must have taken a lot of time to package and box those bikes. Peugeot must have had some sort of automated wrapping machine that encased the bike in plastic in seconds saving a lot of time in the factory. The plastic wrap also saved time for the shop building the bike. With a couple of swipes of a box cutter, the bike was freed from its wrapping in a few seconds and ready to be built up. Most other bikes took 10-15 minutes to unwrap from their protective packaging

Which of the 2 bikes shown are you asking about? The first one is a UE8 which came with an Ideale saddle. The second bike is a UO8 and the saddle is not original to the bike

. I was referring to the 2nd bike. In my haste, I thought they were the same models. Thanks for clarifying.

These bikes would have a lighter leather Ideal saddle oem very nice saddles for a entry level bike but they tended not to age well so it is rare to see one still on a bike of this age in good shape.

I remember how surprised we were when the first plastic-wrapped Peugeots arrived at the shop. The plastic wrapping was superior to the crinkly brown paper wrapping in pretty much every way, especially in the way that the paint and chrome were better protected.
