Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn’t realize unclipping was law? I came to a stop before I was going to proceed. It was 620 am no traffic at this particular intersection ever. I wonder if he would have chased me down if I didn’t unclip?
Some places require you to put one foot down on the ground. Drivers can't tell how long you can track stand, it looks like you are about to go forward. You can probably find it on the interwebz.

In my experience at lights there's either enough traffic that a car will be there to trigger the light for me or not enough traffic for me to care about following the law to the letter once coming to a complete stop.

True, Thankfully not much of an issue for me these days, as I live 20 miles from the closest traffic light, and never ride in that area anyway.

datlas - CVRcade worked but has too much of what the UX folks call friction for me to do anything with it. No way to calibrate the trainer, then you have to download the course which was taking a while. On a day when I wanted yo get going with my workout ASAP before work, it was too much of a hassle (even though they let you ride an empty course while it downloads, that’s not very compelling). And the Ui has a million tiny widgets to tey to sort through to figure anything out. Let me know what you think if you give it a go and get into it; I could maybe get it going on a weekend.

I did try the RouvyAR app, which worked fine but interestingly is way easier than the same course in the regular app. As in, downhills of more than a percent could be coasted at speed, which frustratingly meant that it lost a lot of the benefit of indoor work. The uphills also felt much easier, and yess, it was set to 100% scaling and same body weight as the regular app. Cool effect I suppose, but the other riders were far ahead or behind and with the regular version giving a better workout, I’ll likely just go back to that.

All must be satisfied. It seems to address situations where the vehicles listed don’t trigger sensors.

When I was riding in Idaho last year I found myself waiting at a red light in a town with no traffic in sight. Then I remembered the Idaho stop rule. Cyclist can treat red lights and stop signs as yield signs. The only difference is that you have to come to a complete stop at a red light before proceeding.

Thanks for the review. The fact that it's free made me suspicious that it's not ready for prime time. Luckily, it's now spring in the NE finally so my need for trainer experiences is way lower. I have the SS rain bike with the new bling white BD.com wheels for crappy wet weather and lights for night riding. I prolly won't look into this until late fall, by then maybe they will have an OS version and/or one that is less buggy.

Gotcha. Thanks

I just looked up the IL statute. In municipalities less than 2,000,000 if a light doesn't turn green within 120 seconds cyclists and motorcycles are allowed to proceed.

Message from patient I got today:

"I want an MRI of my back."

Refuses to come in for a visit. NEVER mentioned any back problems before. I have no (wait for it) back-story. Just demand for an MRI.

How do you break it to patients that the doctor is not Burger King? You can't just place whatever order you want and "have it your way??"

Had to make a quick trip to Aldi today and I stumbled across some Nongshim Shin Light ramen. The regular Shin stuff is pretty tasty, but I've cut it out primarily because of the fat/calories. This Light version has air dried noodles, though, as opposed to the being cooked/dried in oil, which is how instant ramen is typically made, so much lower fat content. Just finished the bowl - not bad. Not bad at all.

I bet his insurance would be super cooperative in covering an out-of-the-blue MRI.

Lockdown cabin fever must be getting bad if a recreational MRI sounds fun.

In other news, a coworker just found out he lost a family member to the Covid. The new thing I see the doubters chirping about on FB is “well did they die Of covid or WITH covid?” Which seems like an awfully narrow needlehole to thread your hopes through.

Write back and tell him that, based on the symptoms he describes, you think he needs an upper GI with a small bowel follow through along with a cystoscopy with no anesthesia.

Issue is some patients are so entitled after paying $$$ for insurance they think they can get anything they want. He would not even tell us whether he wants a thoracic spine or lumbar spine MRI. My guess is he wants the whole thing.

Sigh.

I very much enjoyed living in northern California, back in the 70s. Many fond memories of the foot of the Sierras.

The foot of the Sierras is a great place to be. I sure don't know anywhere better, but I'm sure there is somewhere.
