Since folders can be folded for transportation, hence the chances in taking off the wheels are near zero except when under maintenance.
Do you have them?

My Bike Friday was equipped with QR wheels. I wonder about possibly “Rinko” style fork removal to make it even more compact for travel.

I built up my Airnimal Joey from the frame and fork, thus the wheels were my choice.
The front wheel has to be removed to fold, so of course it has a quick release. I put a Sram Dual Drive rear hub on it for wider gearing, that hub was only available with a nutted axle, thus I need an open end wrench to remove it.
If you have quick release and normal full size wheel hubs (100mm front, 130mm or 135mm rear) and prefer not to have quick release, you can buy bolt on skewers. I use those for touring on full size bikes, need a 5mm allen wrench to remove the wheel. When touring, I did that as a anti-theft measure. There are skewers that require a special key or wrench to remove, but I know I would lose that so I use ones that use any 5mm allen wrench. I assume most thieves are opportunists and do not carry a 5mm allen wrench.

Yeah, my pakiT has them. Since it never leaves my hand I don't worry about anyone stealing my lovely Velocity wheels. I only remove the wheels to either fix a flat I can't quick-patch or change a tire, but QR is nice to have in those moments.

One of my folding commuter bikes (Tern Verge S11i, the "summer" bike) has a QR front wheel because it has a SP dynohub. The rear wheel is bolt-on because it has an internally-geared hub. My other folding commuter bike (Dahon Mu XL, the "winter" bike) has bolt-on front and rear wheels.
As you noted, I only remove a wheel for maintenance, so having nuts is not an issue. All things considered, I *like* QR wheels, and have them on all my full-sized bikes. The folders work fine with the nuts, though.
