Play in freewheel

I've noticed my 1985 Univega Gran Turismo has developed a slight creaking noise
I took me a while but I think I've finally tracked it down. I noticed the Suntour
freewheel PT-6S has a very small amount of play from side to side .I know the
bike has been ridden very little since it was new. Is there a way to tighten it more
Than how tight it is from just pedaling ?

Check with pastorbob on the C&V forum. He rebuilds freewheels. Or he may already have posted something about inspecting and servicing those freewheels.

Usually freewheel play is in the freewheel's bearings, not on the threading where the freewheel mounts to the hub.

If it has not been ridden much since 1985 do you think that there is a chance that the grease has dried out?

Define "play".

does only creak when you are riding? If so, it could be any number of sources. Often the saddle, crank area, or even the handlebars/stem. The "creaks" from the rear hub indicates lack of lubrication, I would check the RD pulleys.

My only addition to this topic is that each time I've replaced frreewheels on our families older or not so old cheaper bikes, the brand new inexpensive frreewheels have noticeable wobble. The first time I noticed this a bunch of years ago I thought it was a bad freewheel, returned it for another, but the replacement was almost the same and it didn't affect the shifting or riding so I just ignored it.
These frreewheels were sunrace at about 15 dollars new, 6 and 7 speed.
