The stock tubes are overkill for a frame this size. I weigh 130-140lbs dressed. I should have scooped up a first gen Crust Lightning Bolt.

yea no doubt, probably the wrong bike to begin with. I know I have been a bit disappointed especially with the weight of mine. Mine rides nice but I am 200lbs. It is a tank tho, and I am just putting lip stick on a pig.

I would not agree with it being the wrong bike. Built without consideration is more on the nose.

I noticed somthing today while taking measurements for modifying the frame. The rear dropouts are actually different lengths. The non driveside is 50mm long and the driveside is 60mm long.

can you post where you are measuring from. Mine are different lengths too but where I am measuring them they are different. curious where you are measuring so I can compare. I swear mine is filled with slag it is so heavy.. I feel totally duped lol. someone on another site reached out to me and said they were still waiting for their bike and they were a kickstarter participant. I would like to know how many people got poor quality bikes out of this deal or if everybody did and most people don't care.

It's easier to see using the darker color of Streetsurfer's previous photo versus on my white frame.

Measured this was in red.....photo belongs to streetsurfer

I was toying around the idea of just turning it into a mixte instead of just replacing the top tube for compliance. The headtube is too short and would need replacing along with adjusting the seat tube angle. I put the whole bike up for sale. Going to wait a few weeks more before cutting into it.

I could not see replacing tubes as being really feasible, so probably wise to sell it. Certainly less of a headache in the long run that way. did you show Handsome photos of the drop outs? seem they owe you your money back. It is a joke they claim warranty for life.

I did measure my drop outs like that and they are the same. In order to have my rear wheel not cocked I have to have my adjustment screws at different lengths tho.

I am not emotionally attached to whether this is a waste of time. I mention the quirky measurement only in passing, not for kindling.

we all look at things differently. Maybe I expect too much when I expect a product to be built to a certain standard. Interestingly enough the guy from ibob who emailed me said that Handsome told him the hold up was they could not get the dyad wheels from Velocity. strangely enough I had just ordered a new velocity dyad 26 directly from Velocity and it came right away. On an interesting note Velocity says no need to use rim tape.

The Velocity statement to not needing rim tape makes sense if using tubes. I cannot speak to the truth of the relationship between the two vendors.

yes they specify that the dyad is not able to run tubeless no matter what.

Measured my rear drop-outs. They're within 3/1000"

....think I got 1.932" and 1.935". Left side the longer, and that could maybe be contributed to by paint thickness. Was basically a matter of go/no-go with the caliper.

say Jeff or teamdarb, if you don't mind, about how much fluids do you take with you and consume on a 60 mile ride? Do you drink while on rollers for a half hour or more? Thanks fellas.

on my 60 mile rides I drink 2 full 26 oz bottles and sometimes that is not enough. on the rollers for 30 minutes I don't drink but if I do an hour I do. I try and really be hydrated before riding but does not always happen. on my longer rides I have been using a powder mix called Liquid I.V. and it really seems to help. I will eat an energy bar and banana on longer rides but not on rides shorter than 40 miles. Sounds like teamdarb does a lot more long distance riding then I am doing. I hope to get in a few 100+ milers in the next month.

thanks, very helpful. I've bought a Stasher frame bag that will hold a couple tall cans of coconut water/yerba mate, with room for foods or other items or four sixteen ounce
cans (or less along with snacks). Insulated and has a sealed zipper removable inner liner.

Stasher

also considering a blackburn frame bag with a pocket for a dromedary bladder.

I have a 20 oz and 24 oz bottle. But I generally will carry a 16oz or 20oz soda as well. I do start hydrated. Yesterday was pretty warm and I went through all three at 74 miles. I am more of camel when it comes to drinking. I know if I haven't sweated or urinated in a long bit something is wrong. That same math of fluids goes on longer rides and offset with liquid based snacks such as sweet peas or beets. I stay away from dry energy, unless it gives me something to do while riding....I have a tendency to chew liquorish or left out overnight jerky.

I do prefer the water bladder over water bottles. Carrying it- not so much. I would wear a 3 liter pack for a long time until the bag finally split. I disliked the sweaty back it left me with all day. When I tried finding a frame bag to fit the bikes I ride most, that is where issue came and I stopped having the water bladder. Small frame bags which would fit the 3 liter bladder could not be found. Water bottles have to be so small to fit within frames that having them can be pointless in my usage.

Ashamed to admit this but I still have yet to take my XOXO out for a ride. I’ve been riding basically everything but…

I really need to jump on the XOXO and finally take it for a spin.

Here is “everything but…”

Went on the first ride today. Fun bike but heavy and the reach is crazy long. I have mustache-like bars (can be seen on the red Fuji, they are soma bars) and I think I’m going to swap them out for the “OEM” NITTOs.

be interested to see the swap when you do it. I know it is probably all in my head but I can't help to think how much nicer these would be if they were a couple pounds lighter.

I think the wheel set may be the best first place to look if you want to drop weight. You will feel the rotational mass more so than anything else. The frame isn’t that heavy overall, but wheels can be and are.

Always true. Something I noticed after cutting into the top tube- the paint is super thick. A powder coat with wet paint on top?

seems odd for sure. do you have a cross section photo of the tube? I know just tapping on the tube or flicking it with your finger they sound like they are thick compared to my other bikes ie thud instead of a plink sound. maybe the powder coat explains it. I have some chips on my fork and paint ground away on my chainstay where the chain ring made contact but really does not seem overly thick in those places. I ground the safety nubs off the fork drop outs and paint was not thick there either. Look forward to seeing your project progress. Cool that you are doing it.

What I wll do is run the band saw down the length of the tube to see what the thicknesses really are throughtout.
