Any one touring on 180 mm cranks ?
Hi ,
I just put 180mm cranks on my touring bike , up from 175. I had a 180 set I picked up cheap lying around.I am 6'2 with long legs 35inch inseam approx
Not sure if i like it yet , may have to give it a while to adjust to the larger circle.
Does anyone here run 180s? If so what height/inseam are you , Im curious to know ,
Thanks ,
J

it was long, long ago......built up a 64cm frame with 180mm arms.
6'2", 34" inseam.
lately have been using 175's as that is what is readily available.

I'm 6'3" w/ 36" inseam and I also run 175s on my bikes. I'm curious if you like 180 as I've been contemplating whether or not you'd get more power out of that extra 5mm and long(er) legs. Part of touring for me is the endurance factor; I like long days in the saddle and pushing exertion levels. Please keep us posted.

I am 66 at 5'8", standover about 815mm. I put 180s on my custom heavyweight with Rohloff14, built in 2013. 2 tours totaling 8,100 miles, not a peep from my knees. About 24,000 miles total. Moving along my 70 lb bike seems effortless really, 120 lbs on tour.
In 2012 I got a SA 5w hub. At first it was with a 165 crank off an old Raleigh, then soon after the 180s. MASSIVE upgrade in power and speed. The shift point moved 9% also. Going back to my defaileur bike with 165s made my feet feel like they were at the back wheel somewhere, AWFUL. It is now thankfully gone, good riddance.
When I was in grade 9 my dad got us an uncle's old 23.5" SS Rudge that had 180s, so that is what I thought was normal. AFAIK, most Rudges came that way in the 1950s. I did about 4,000 miles on it. Then in 1974 I bought the 5 speed Raleigh, only liked the handlebar and grips really, still use the perfect grips.

I'm 6'1" and wear pants with 35" inseam.
I have 2 bikes with 175mm cranks, and two bikes with 180mm cranks.
The difference when switching between them is just about imperceptible.
If I could find a 190mm crankset for a reasonable price, I'd like to try it.

I am 6'5 and have 180mm crank arms on my current commute/touring bike. I threw em on to try out since I always run 170-175 on all my other bikes.
After many miles so far, my view is- meh. They are fine. I dont think about them at all, just like I didnt think about the 170mm arms before, I dont think about the 172.5 arms on my gravel bike, and I dont think about the 175mm arms on my road bikes.
They are no worse and no better than all the others. I have low standards. My legs move and the arms turn. Ends up I really dont care much how big the circle is in which my legs are turning. The biggest difference(the only difference?) is that my saddle is lower. I would guess its by 1cm since thats the difference from the old crank to this one.
The crank is a Sugino AT triple from the 80s. Nice natural high polish and all.

They seem difficult to come across , a lot of the 180 mm cranks on ebay are very expensive.
