Castagno Racing Bike, anyone?
I'll be picking this up tomorrow, a Castagno bike. No idea, never heared of them. I only have the pictures from the local Market Place.
It seems that it's an Italian brand, from Firenze IIRC. It's a light blue with yellow lettering.

Sellers says it's a 60 cm bike, it looks like it anyway . Looks like the drivetrain (at least the front) has been replaced.
If anyone has some info then please! Do tell.
With any luck I can store it at my work (shed is too full atm) and post some pictures either tomorrow, or Monday.

It's heavier than my curent "old" bike, a Benotto 800. But getting decent tires on it will improve this one. And the rack on the back doesnt help either.
It is a touring/sporting bike, probaby low level. Curious how it will ride when fixed up a bit. It's not a bike that I would mind experimenting a bit with, painting comes to mind.
Seattube is 61 cms, toptube is 55 or there about.
Seller bought it used also, with the triple and the six speed wheel if I counted right. cables are toast of course... and the components are either suntour or shimano atus.

What, even with those decals? They look faded enough for me to consider them original...
I havent measured the BBshell, should be 73 right? If Italian?

Low quality bike decals were a commodity at the time in Belgium and Holland, as were Italian-sounding brand names. Both ended up on bikes that were sold by bike shops as house brand bikes. Yours looks to be one of those.
It is interesting, though, as it seems to be a very early Giant frame from before Koga picked them up and launched them as their second brand, labeling them "Quality touched by Koga".

BTW, I think the name on the top tube reads "Philipsen". Might be the name of the shop that marketed these.

The only Philipsen I've been able to find so far that might fit, was in Rotterdam. And still is, albeit at a new address: Philipsen Tweewielers. Give 'em a call, I'd say.

Philipsen in Rotterdam was indeed it's origin. Thanks non-fixie!
Yes, they indeed sold bikes under their own name. A Giant frame? Could be (according to the older woman I got on the telephone). Could also be Italian, because "all the bikes back then came from Italy". Sure. We here know better but that's not the point right now.
They have moved twice between then (80's) and now, so no, there was no more information they could provide.
And then the conversation ended, more or less. They did not have any more info and I didnt have more to ask, really. So that was that.
Now it's back to removing stuck steering posts, stuff that shouldnt be on the bike because of rust, and thinking wat to do with it in general.
The ballbearings might need an overhaul in the steeringtube. Maybe I should repaint the bike "my ten speeds-style",...
It should at least get a decent working rear derailleur and tires, brakes need to work too. Some cable should be found/ordered,...
Dont hold your breath for upgrades though, I am not really good at that . Might be that I'll take photos along the way, might not. I should dive back in my "give away parts bin" to see if I still have more or less decent parts for this...
Cheers!

Yes, you still have Massinni over here, sold by Math Salden. I've heared that those are actually quite good bikes, espescially for their price range.
I am sure there are others as well, in all countries.
If I restore/paint the bike, I might as well do the same, provided it rides decent enough. I just have to think of a decent name.
If I translate my last name in French, it'll be Du Moulin. Not too sure if Tom agrees with that but it would be funny
Edit: Dalmulino. Could work...
