I have quite a few oldies. This is one of the most comfortable and was badly neglected when found. It's a B15. Original to a $25, 1966 Super Sport, ridden in the 2016 Clunker Challenge. 1st pic is from CL ad, next 2 show its "Before" condition better, last pic taken today after renovation and 5 years of regular use. I was concerned the cut across rear of saddle meant a short life, but the leather is very thick and cut is approximately 1/16" inch deep. Seems to be stable and have years of life left even after 55 years. Several of my other Brooks are nearly as old and in better shape, but have few "before" pics. Don

Batavus fans might cringe at the "this dutch bike" reference, and it looks like a 23" stepthrough frame. If you choose not to keep the bike that frame size might be a big selling point.

This B17 Champion Special was purchased during the great Brooks Saddle Panic of 2000. It stayed in its box until it went onto this Mercian in January 2003. It developed that tear at the nose, but then I figured out I could run an auxiliary rivet up front and straighten it back out and get a few more years. This is the second attempt with a larger, better prepared rivet. It's all since worn down smoother due to use in the last year or so. I think this saddle has right around 13k miles on it, but the bike saw all-weather service as a commuter for a few years along the way. It is very, very comfortable.

In another Brooks saddle thread, the OP asked "I am curious if I need to get the care stuff with it" One forum member did not think so, others said yes, including me...

The bike and saddle saw little use, ending up stored in a garage or shed for many years. If the original saddle owner knew that his expensive saddle would look like this, without the saddle treatment, he just might have sprung for some Proofhide before putting the bike away...

Look. Here's a picture of that same saddle from 2005. And you didn't even own the bike then. Funny, huh?

Hah! Did you have some role in that bike getting to me?! Sad saddle story is that the one in the pic above, original to this 1949 Raleigh Clubman, snapped at the nose during a benefit ride the first month or so that I had it (and it was just a couple of miles into that ride; did another 50 or so on the broken saddle). But a year or so later, I ended up with a 1950 Clubman, and swapped its saddle to the ‘49. That’s the one in my pic.

In 2005, we were looking to relocate to NS and I saw the ad for this Halifax bike. I made contact, ready to pay but some guy from the States beat me to it. Next thing I know, there's a Yankee on Oldroads telling us about the nice Clubman he mercilessly snatched away from Canada. The pic of that saddle must have resurfaced all the painful memories I had buried as a 46 year old child. To think of the money I wasted on therapy too. Bastage!
Shortly thereafter, you and I traded some parts and all was forgiven. Obviously, I kept the pic.

Back on topic, a fancy embossed Lycetts, made by Brooks.

Wild! Well, I know who gets first dibs when I’m ready to move the Clubman on. I actually also scored a ‘49 Clubman frameset right around that time, but moved it on once I had the complete bike. They are out there!

Sorry, Neal, but I've got to agree with clubman, it's the same saddle!

^ Hmm, good sleuthing, Charles, and given some of the leather cracking at the nose, that’s the one that likely broke on that group ride. Must have taken the pic previous to that event. Guess I should go down to the basement and seen what the one on there now looks like.
