Southern Illinois Gravel Ride (video)

This was my only "long" ride in 2020, 3 days. I rode across southern Illinois (River to River) on mostly gravel roads, from Grand Tower on the Mississippi River to Cave in Rock on the Ohio River. The ACA TransAm trail goes across southern Illinois on paved roads from Chester to Cave in Rock. This is a gravel alernative. Gravel riding and bikepacking seems to be the thing these days, so I had to join in and see what all the fuss was about. I hope to spend the summer of 2021 bike touring, but for 2020, this is all I've got.

Love the Type II Fun description! I’ve definitely been adding more gravel to my tours for the reasons you mention.

Really enjoyed that. I've ridden many of those same areas over the years but I've shied away from the gravel and tended to stay on the black top (other than Tunnel Hill Trail). Looks like I missed a lot. Btw, we used to train doing repeats up Bald Knob Hill to the Cross. Thanks for sharing.

smudgy, I've watched your videos so much that they're often the first-recommended on YouTube. This was a real treat yesterday.

Hope '21 provides plenty of bike adventure...and I know you won't complain when you find it!

Great video, you must have a follow me drone or something to get the air shots. Very good narration. Thanks.

Another very entertaining video. I've watched all of them numerous times. I really enjoy your creative style, especially your drone use in this latest one. I’m looking forward to your 2021 offerings. Thank you for sharing.

Nice vid, but having your wife drive all that way to take you home and back every day--aside from global warming issues--seems a strange idea. Camping is surely intrinsic to touring and for some, including myself, one of the best parts of a trip.

I can think of plenty of reasons why it is not a strange idea.
