Evaluation request 1972 Bottecchia - Giro 'd Italia
1972 Bottecchia Giro ' Italia. 58cmX57.5cm (ctc), 15.8cm headtube. 12cm stem
same frame/fork as top level Pro model, but lesser components - Columbus SP in this frame size.
2nd owner here. The original owner changed rims from tubular to clincher and ditched the first saddle.. I changed the seatpost (may still have original seat pin and saddle clamp) to a Selcof and the Record Pat'72 rd for Pat'73 NR. I also rode it with a lighter tubular wheelset (pictured), and the freewheel on the clincher set may need replacement.
New gum rubber hoods from France for Universal brake levers, Carnielli stem, Nervar crank, Campy shifter, ders. New cables&housing, vintage vinyl bar tap. Could benefit from new brake pads. Original paint/chrome & decals in very good condition for 50 year old bike. No dents. Some paint chips.
missing the ‘Giro ‘d Italia’ decal on top tube

odd that lower Way-Assauto headset stack is yet in place whilst the upper stack has been replaced

The Giro d'Italia and Professional sported the same frame/fork set, as I recall. Given the opportunity, I might be tempted to go $1000.00 CND or around $800 USD. They are lovely riding bikes and that one looks to be in great shape.

High valuations are perhaps reflecting Ebay asking or patience in 'finding th perfect buyer', but I think @cyclophilia 's low number - and on a good day - to be what I was expecting.
With SP tubing for size 58, it rolls very smoothly and with stability for a near 200lb rider.
appreciate all the replies!!!

Your market is pretty strong though for vintage steel, I'd think? I certainly would start higher. Are those Universal 61 brakes, or something Mafac?

The one in the garage is about that time frame. I picked 1972 for some reason. Given the frame set is the same, I used the parts from my bent up Motobecane that would fit.
This picture shows the original saddle pin. the PO pulled the decals of which I have a replacement set.
Cleaned up first assembly on Flickr
The original saddle was plastic.

Mine is beat up with lots of scratchs, rust, etc. The brakes are Mod 61. I have a set of wheels with HF Campy hubs to put on it.
I bought mine ni 2014 and paid, what I thought was too much later, at about $250. I bought it because it had chrome lugs! As purchased.

It does ride nice. Mine measures about 59cm. I never finished cleaning it up. Should do that.

As someone who has been selling on ebay for over 22 years, expect to pay A LOT in fees, fees are charged even on the shipping. Then you WILL get a 1099 from ebay managed payments. If the toal of all your transactions within one year with a gross of $600, and you will get a 1099. Surely with shipping this one will exceed that mark. You and your tax accountant will have to document all of your costs, as the IRS will otherwise consider the total amount of your 1099 to be INCOME. I've been dealing with PayPal and eBay managed payment 1099s for a while, so its not that bad. But the first time people get one, they can panic.
And of course, you will have to pack and ship, which is a PITA. I have a frameset to pack and ship today. Not looking forward to it!
The sad part is a local sale may be less than just what the parts alone are worth. Parts are pretty easy to ship.
Ebay is the best option for people that live in poor local markets, which is my case. Seattle is a better market for sure!

I have that same Bottecchia Giro in silver. I paid all of $250.00 for it in mint condition. Well, brand new condition back in 1972. My first "real" bike. I recall it didn't take the bike shop long to convince me that it was a lot of bike for the money at the time. The tires are glued on? What the heck is the deal with that. Still have the sales slip somewhere. Turned it into a campground cruiser back in the '80's and stupidly threw some stuff away. Now I'm trying to get it back to it's former road bike days.
