Going to see if it is practical to tour on the grand record. Overloaded for a sub24 but it's proof of concept for an actual tour. Up and down the block feels good.

How exactly does one plan for bathroom breaks on a bicycle in the middle of nowhere?

Then again, I can’t function normally without a continuous caffeine drip— I’d be more worried about running out of water for the pot!

Maybe take it on a few extended climbs/descents if possible? See how it handles the weight relative to shimmy, wobbles and braking.

Let me say that the world is my toilet when bike touring.... As for the handling which was my main concern, pretty damn outstanding. i had the front fairly well balanced and while I don't have any super long hills, I had a 13% decent into the park that was outstanding! Solid as a rock. A few short slow climbs were just fine too. I think easier than when I front loaded the bob Jackson. Also, I am way out of shape. Nice short ride today, about 25 miles but I think 60-70 would have been my max. At any rate I sleep out tonight to make sure all the rest of the gear works.

It gets a lot harder once they start harvesting the corn... i.e. usually the handiest place to find relief here in the midwest!

It looks squared away pretty good. Where are you heading and how far? I am with you on the caffeine , I gotta have my dark roast ....strong and black ....no sugar. I can drink it warm or cold , it don't matter . It's about the only buzz I get anymore unless you count the residuals from 35 years ago! Then I'm in trouble.

Seasoning! Besides, behold the sight of the combine harvester relieving itself into that tractor/trailer... the field is wide open for potential nested references here.

Vintage Moto, French = touring.

Can't imagine any world where it would not work.

Maybe not a TC or LC but Merz toured on a Raliegh Pro from the same time period and thought it was fine so......

Just a quick ride to make sure it all works. Next week while my girl is in South Africa I will do a 3 day state park tour.

You ain't lieing about the corn blocking the wind. Once it comes down touring can get brutal.

Looking Forward to the ride report. I'm sure you will find something to tweak , that's why it is called "shakedown"!

then you definitely don't want to look up what a manure spreader is....

(in case there is any confusion, the corn grow in most of the midwest is for feeding livestock, not humans. No telling what Archer Daniels Midland does with the stuff, though)

Cool bike. I’m still working on my Rando GR in between rides. Are you worried at all about the durability of the Cyclone rear derailleur? I know another BF C&V’er who brought along a backup rd for his Cyclone. Mine had a spring hicup already so I’m using an 8 speed 105 to shift 6 cogs.
(I hope I don’t jinx you.”

Don't take a whiz in a cut cornfield in Illinois, lest they see you from Iowa.....

(BTW, dark roast coffee is usually weaker wrt. caffeine, since it's usually roasted longer.)

My girlfriend's best friend is a barista.... We have been informed. She drops off bags of blonde roast beans at least once a week.

Tent, air mattress and pillow were good but I bought a better sleeping bag on the way home. Big Agnes 35° comfort rating. I was using a north face 55° comfort rating.
