Legnano seat binder dimensions???

Can anyone supply Legnano seat binder dimensions?

I have a cotter press customer who is trying to determine if a much abused Legnano is worth making roadworthy. If he determines that the frame is true, he wants me to re-create the seat binder. I have the tools, but the frame's a thousand miles away so I can't try to reverse engineer it.

If I make one set I might as well make several.

BTW A local gent had a simpler solution for those easy to lose and hard to find parts.

Stick welding over brass brazed lugs! Ewww? It was ridden by a teen who wouldn’t sell it, because it had been his grandfathers bike. Later I realized I should have offered to do a proper fix for free. But I never saw him again. When I’m gone I’d love for one of my great-grandsons to feel that way about one of my bikes.

Yay! I get to help out.

Sorry for the bad lighting. If you need mo’ better pics let me know.

You may be aware, there are 2 types of binders. Jim Merz is still making the below type and sells them on eBay.

That looks and measures much the same as mine. My understanding is that one kind is for the seatlug without a slot, and one for one with. This one came with a slot-less frame.

The thread is odd; it appears to be 1/4" x 1.0mm. A 7x1 die is a *very* loose fit, but a 6x1 won't even start.

It'll be a bit tricky to make due to the offset, and the seatpost seating-surface really needs to be cut accurately.

I understand there are a number of seat binder bolts.

Legnano Seat Post Binder Bolts
This detail was unique to Legnano and it is the one detail that will always define a Legnano frame (up to the late 60’s) even if it has been repainted or in miserable condition. However because it was a unique it is also difficult to source and there is no modern replacement part available that I have run across. The principal of the Legnano pin works to wedge the seatpost against the inner wall of the seat tube rather than the conventional method of squeezing the seat tube (thereby reducing its diameter) to fix the seat post. It is quite clever really and work as well if not better than the conventional method.
The vast majority of the seat pins are 12,0mm in diameter and are in two parts plus a washer and nut. And on occasion they pop up on eBay. However there is also an 8,0mm pin that were used on the early Roma Olimpiade models including the ’58 on this site. These are like ‘hens teeth’ as they say.
They can be seen in this poor photograph on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/bellav...7628562701621/ They were for sale through their web page, which no longer functions. Here is the Wayback Machine snapshot in 2021. https://web.archive.org/web/20210126...it/ricambi.htm
As was mentioned above Jim Merz machined one of the versions, the three part, and he says they are difficult to make! He sells them through ebay

I think Jim Merz was making these, not too long ago.

Thanks everyone.

I had assumed the customer had already searched for these online and had come up empty. I should have confirmed that with him. I'll just send him the link to the Merz one.

I'd never seen one, so I assumed it would have a recessed socket head, like a seat post pinch bolt braze on.

I'll save the dimensions from Rusty and Oneclick for future reference,
