hey nice shopping Jimbud.
Here's a pic of my Orbea, I got it in Oct 01, still going strong. Just put the Conti 4000's on. After about 1000 k's, no flats and they seem ok.

Yeah, frame is 61 cm Square. 130mm stem. Hard to tell from the photo, the seat tube angle is very steep & the seat makes it look worse than it really is. At the end of the day it is very stretched out, I like it, I am 195cm tall.

I have been considering picking up an Orbea Volatta. Anybody know much about them? They seem to be pretty rare...I am having trouble findin much info on them...my local dealer said he can sell one to me for 1300$ (100 less than retail).

Here's mine, 2002 Orbea Zonal, great bike. I've changed the wheels to Velocity Deep V's since I've taken this pic. I must say that the Velocity's are 10x better than the Neuvations, I had some flexing on hills with the Neuvations, absolutely no flexing with the Velocity's. This bike is full Ultegra 9spd. Been pretty reliable so far.

My Dauphine has been great so far, I love the frame. Hate the wheels however, they will be replaced soon.
I saw a Volata when I was picking up my Dauphine and for the price it looked like a solid bike. The campy mirage components are actually fairly solid and the wheels are very decent(Mavic Askium's I beleive). Frame is nice, a little over a pound heavier than the Dauphine.

Anyone here with an Opal? I know it is very new ... just wondering. I'm thinking of maybe looking into one as a new race rig. No idea why - I love my S-Works. Must be because of tax refund season!

I just received my '06 opal 1 week ago. I have a 54 frame with the team euskatel color. I am new to road biking and have only put 200 miles on the bike so far. I dont have anything to compare it to, but the bike is absolutely nice. It handles very well. Here is the setup:
Frame - 54 Orbea Opal
Gruppo - Dura ace 10
Handlebar - FSA Wing Carbon
Wheels - Dura ace
Saddle - Fizik Arione(will exchane for Terry fly Ti)
Computer - Garmin Edge 305 w/ cadence and HRM.
I have been riding 30/day for the past 7 days. I love this bike.

MacMan, One of the head guys at the lbs apparently just got his Opal, and he allready had a Lemond spline carbon/Ti bike. I will have to take a look at it and tell you how he likes it.

Orbea dropped the Dauphine for 2006, it appears the Volata, Vuelta, Dauphine and 2005 Marmolada all had the same frame, just different groups and paint schemes. 2006 Marmolada has the Mitis frame but the marketing blurb says it is lighter than the Mitis. This is for the U.S. The European market has tons more models.

Just bought an Opal last weekend. Absolutely love it. Before buying the Opal I test rode an...

Scott CR1 (Unbelievable climber, fast acceleration & stiff but the fork is to harsh)
BMC Team (loved it however LBS didn't have my size to test ride; i test rode a 53 and needed a 55. It was a little more harsh then Opal but not nearly as bad as CR1. If i could buy a second bike for Crits this would be the one)
I finally decided on the Orbea Opal. I was looking for a stiff frame for climbing but also a bike i could ride comfortably for hours and i believe this is the perfect rig for the task. If you are looking for a pure climbing bike then i believe the Scott CR1 is the answer. If you are looking for a great race bike then i think the BMC is great choice...but if you want a bike that runs that guanlet, very light, can climb, be raced, and ridden for hours at a time then the Opal is the weapon of choice.
