Wow. Very sad indeed.
She was my mother's age 76, when she passed away. Incredible. I feel at her age, she should have taken it easy because your body won't take the type of hard touring she exposed it. If you abuse your body at that age, like my mother did, it will take you away. It's quite possible she contacted something that could have been treated in the UK but not so Syria. Regardless, she had a full life. I just ordered her book, A Bike Ride.

I never heard of her, but the intro to the obit gives some idea of the interesting kind of person she was:
It is an exceptional author who can supply a book with three appendices so varied as a technical specification of a bicycle, a timeline of the life of Cleopatra and an ichthyological listing.

She was a great inspiration to me as well. Feeling quite sad today, and wondering just how come the news has been so quiet about her death. I can't find anything online aside from The Times obituary. She deserves a few more tributes.

Very sad to hear she passed away. Her book "A Bike Ride" inspired me to get on my bike (in 2005) and tour from Holland to Greece. Now my wife and I are hooked to touring.

I've never heard of her, but you can bet I'll be reading her books in the future. I hope I cycle until I drop like Anne did!

I very much enjoyed reading A Bike Ride and Two Wheels in the Dust. In the former, she recounts her 12,000 mile ride across Europe, Asia, and North America. Her description of some of the folks she encountered in the American Midwest remains memorable.

I have a few of her books. They are all inspiring. It's such a shame to lose her. There is very little info in how she died as 76 is not old for a fit regular cyclist. A great loss.

Well it's certainly uplifting to read about someone like her. Sure she died a bit earlier than usual but she lived 10 ordinary people's lives.

I imagine she died alone. She was in a, I think, Syrian hospital, taken ill whilst on tour. I don't know if she would have survived had she been in a European hospital. She seemed to be an indomitable lady with great strength of character. It questions the wisdom of touring so far from home at that age . Others might have other opinions though.
