Last time I did that was attempting to cross what looked to be a wide shallow stream riding along the Mississippi river bank. It was 5' deep and quite swift then suddenly very shallow. Said drop off coming 8'-10' in perfectly as momentum faded and I leaned forward to fight the rest of the way across. I gurgled the strangest squeal of horror a human can make under water which turned into a whoop when I realized the bike wasn't going to get washed downstream never to be seen again.

3 hours of 75 rpm slow and low base work in fairly gusty winds. Holding form going that slow with no recent muscle memory was mentally taxing. Physically too based on how ravenous I was when I walked in the door.

Did a few hours today, focusing on cadence, and just enjoying.

Stung by a bee in the neck in the first few minutes. The good part about getting stung is my gf thought I'm allergic to bees since when I was stung a month ago I developed a big red swollen circle that lasted two weeks. But I didn't die today, so it must be all good!

Eighteen months of injuries have taken their toll and I was well over 20% bf (19% atm). 14 pounds in 25 days, with 12 to go. Definitely not fun.

Yesterday something fell out of a tree onto my neck and stung the hell out of me. It's a bizarre non-localized sting so I think it might have been a poisonous caterpillar or something. More like a chemical burn than a sting. It's driving me crazy.

Sat 3.5 hr group ride with mostly B+ guys, started out 8 guys ended up being a 4 man gang, so equal pulls plus 20% solo. Today Sunday, I feel like I din't ride at all even though the ride wasn't easy, got HR zone 4,5 many times during the ride plus a head cold. CTL 60, ATL 57, TSB -4, 8 hrs week
Think it's time for 5 hrs ride next Saturday with only one stop

I'd like to note an attempt to rid all juvenile innuendo from what would normally only require a brief description.

I saw three days of rain was going to start in 30 minutes. So I ran outside and did a very brief warm up before hammering myself into the ground. Things got wet quick so I coasted home enjoying the relaxing cooling effect after the hard efforts.

Raced cx on Saturday before my flight to LA. Another burped tire. This one definitely my fault because I fooled a mtb through a too aggressive line he could take but I couldnt. Missing my tubulars as that ended my shot at a good result. Chased from the back to 8th again. Np almost equal to my ftp. IF of. 97. Ouch.

Today since I'm in LA without a bike, I went for a run around the theme park and through downtown Disney. Loving life here now that I'm used to altitude. 7minute miles felt really easy. I was fighting through crowds at that pace and only sweating because of humidity.

It's been two weeks since I touched my road bike. That's normally how long my taper is. Starting to get anxious to get back to it. One more week of time off (much more forced than the last two).
The velonews fast talk episode this week talked about off seasons and inadvertently I've done something right in my training for once. Yay!

@Racer Ex - I feel your (physical) pain, though my issue didn't occur right before Worlds but at a random time during the year. I can't imagine your frustration.

I totally screwed myself up doing my own type of training. Like needing 10+hrs of sleep a night, borderline anemic kind of screwed up. So, my coach put me back on structure, and after resting up I had the best workout of my life this past week, and everything just kind of feels easy and no chain. He's got me doing FTP building before base starts, and Imma throw in the occasional unplanned gonzo ride just so he remembers that I am not a number, I am a free man.

Season is over. Too enough time to eat half a pizza some cookies and ice cream.

Back to it this morning.

Santa Anna River trail? I just picked a spot on the map and ran there today. Saw the Anaheim angels stadium was close so ran out that way and thought I would cut along the river back to katella and back to the apartment. Saw the massive homeless camps and decided to just loop around the parking lot instead lol.

Anaheim is an interesting city. One city block(orangewood to katella) separated what felt like a homely neighborhood block that I felt like I could afford to live in from upscale, hipster apartments and expensive restaurants. Very different from the other (limited number of) cities I've visited.

That's the one, it used to be a really nice ride and was pretty much a staple for OC riders. There's always been a small homeless issue but within the past 2 years its grown ten fold.

I think most of the California Coast is like that, everyone wants to live there and real estate is so precious a millionaire has no issue putting up a property next to a run down area. Some towns are even worse.

Anyway, did my first commute in over a year, felt pretty good.

FTP Test yesterday forgot how those hurt. Start on a slight downhill and ended on a slight up, 243 Av so FTP 230. I'm okay with that even though I have a cold, I know I left out 5-10watts . Need to get serious miles this month before time change in Nov

starting to come around to the trainer. ive always hated indoor exercise (which is weird, because im a very indoor person, i just seem to dislike exercising in place), be it a treadmill or the trainer, but i definitely respect people who are able to crush trainer workouts and it really is much more targetted and 'better' training IMO. i think part of the reason i hate it less now is that it takes a couple sessions to get acquainted to the different sensations and mindset - clearly if i only do it once in a blue moon i'm not going to adapt to it the same way i have when ive been riding it more consistently. i also think im learning better what kind of work i'm able to do on it - much shorter intervals, lots of things to break up the monotony, distractions etc. my power has been pretty much consistently improving, and while its still very far away from what i could do outdoors its nice to see the progress.

i've commuted to work on my fixie (wearing a splint) the last two days and things feel pretty decent, the biggest problem is that i think i have 'the fear'. last time i had a bad crash on a descent 3 years ago it took a long time to gain my confidence back on a bike, and i think the same thing is going to happen this time around as well. i dont know how much of it has to do that im currently riding with a splint on a bad wrist and maybe once im more healed i'll be less terrified, but every crack/tar snake/railroad track/gravel patch/slightly damp looking pavement on my commute scares me. a far cry from bombing descents in the rain in the dolomites a month ago, but i'm sure i'll get back there eventually.

Sounds like me. I've struggled riding on a trainer to the point where my cadence was so low my left knee hurt. Back in April when I broke my collarbone it was the only option and had to put the Wahoo/bike between a tall drawer and bike shelf for fear of falling off. Zwift was the only option and found that I could do every other day 20miles/1.5 hrs only. Took me atleast 2 months before I was comfortable riding with Saturday A group 22-30+. I still get pissy when people don't call out holes or debris but I've come to accept the fact that, when everyone is redlined, no one remembers to call out stuff. Best luck with recovery.

Have you considered not riding outside at all until you're more healed up?
