Addiction 2022.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just heard a guy died in the race this pm. Apparently washed overboard in windy conditions.

Crap. Dumb question: do the racers wear a life vest, and does it make any difference under these conditions??

Pretty impressive. The tires have to be somewhere between 4500-5500 miles.

Tires always look worse on a screen - it's literally 5" wide on my computer.

Basically, if the casing isn't bulging at any of the scars, it's fine. If there's a cut deep enough to see the cords (but again, it's not bulging), some might fill in or try to glue it shut, just so debris doesn't have a convenient place to punch through, but the structural integrity is still fine as-is.

Glad to provide much needed humor to this dreary thread. Boats breaking, Tennessee being mentioned. Bad juju.

In rough conditions and at night all sailors have to wear a PFD and a harness attached by a tether to a point that will keep them out of the water. The rules for this race may mandate full time wear when on deck or in the cockpit. Even then it’s easy to be dragged and drowned.

This guy might have been thrown over in an accidental gybe hit by the boom etc. too

I think it's because she isn't on a road team. I think that's what Nino Schurter did when he raced the Tour de Suisse while he was the 9 time world champion cross country mtb racer.
Jolanda finished the TT in sixth and the winner of the stage had not been on a TT bike before, from what I heard.

I wonder if I really saw it live, or just think I did. Who was it against. It certainly lit up that season. I was, of course, a Browns fan in those days. Not likely to be again. The Haslem fam tends to rub me the wrong way.

I got a pair of the Continental 5000 tires from my friend for $20 each. Put them on the Seven and rode the 65 mile club ride yesterday. They seem fine but we didn't do any canyon descending or other abusive testing.
I guess I should buy some more of them.

20 bucks is awesome. I don’t think I will be that lucky with 32 mm.

I had one with a cut that went right down to the casing, but not quite through it. Slight swelling. So I used that one on the trainer all winter, and come DST, I took the bike off the trainer and put the new tire on. I kept the old one though. Winter will come again

Has he still got 'em at $20? I'm kicking myself for not buying a crap-ton of them when PBK was selling pairs for $75!
