Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How big is that one? I ended up going with a 6-cup (prepared), which is on the smaller side, but I rarely make more than 1.5 Cups of uncooked, anyway, so I thought that it would be sufficient for 98% of our needs. The whole "rice cooker cups aren't Cups" thing is confusing, too.
Looking at it, it has marks on the inside that go up to 6, so maybe 6 cups. The metal bowl where the cooking happens is surprisingly heavy. Likely steel. Not Ti.

I would assume that that's 6 cups uncooked, which would put that in the ~12 cup category, I think, since mine will take 3 cups but is a 6-cup cooker...

Our 7 day tour netted 340+ miles, Sunday through today. I’m exhausted

We we’re planning a short tandem ride, tomorrow, but it’s looking like rain. May have to just clean bikes instead.

Yeah, that's awesome. If I had an SO that was also a cyclist, I could imagine that kind of mileage on a vacation together.

Or, if my family were away for a week, and I had nothing better to do, I might even shoot for 500 miles, just for gits and shiggles... but otherwise, 300 miles is a lot of time to be away from wife and kids.

Now I'm trying to figure out a way to convince the family to go on a trip without me.

Mrs. GJ and I are still using the rice cooker we bought around the time The Younger Boy was born. Still works a treat.

They may be thinking about how they could convince you to take a trip without them.

Our rice cooker is a pan on the stovetop; sometimes it's a pressure cooker.

70 miles in this heat is more than enough.

We had a game scheduled for Thursday but mercifully it was canceled. It would look really bad in the papers if we lost a couple of guys in the heat,

Today I went to the club ride start and went with the fast people mostly because my friend was going and he always watches out for me. On the 3 mile climb out of the valley my friend had to turn back, seems he bruised some ribs when he fell hiking. Ended up with 11 riders and after some sniveling I did better than I thought I would.

It helped that some of the others were struggling and the fast riders waited or got caught at red lights. It's been a while since I rode with them. I noticed when we were cruising along they would put the hammer down before a climb started so they were clear of the main group when they hit the climb and then they rocketed away.

Only 65ish miles and topped out about 95 degrees but some of them were hurting toward the end. One of the faster guys told me I did well. I'm not sure compared to what but I'll take it.

I might be a mutant. I really don’t mind riding long and hard in the heat. Today’s ride was fine, but I would have preferred a century. I took one for the team by making the ride shorter.

I usually do ok in the heat, too. Today 95 near the end didn't bother me, but 95 really isn't hot for us. When it is hot the climbing becomes the biggest factor. Cruising along on flat ground @100+ is tolerable but if there is a bunch of climbing it's a different story. And water, I have to have lots of water.

Back when I did long rides every Saturday Mrs John would complain if I came home earlier than usual. "This is my time" or some such.
