Just curious what you all do for meals when you commute. Me, I have a food court type place about a half mile up the road that I walk to that has several pretty decent options. I usually go with the Asian place because I love their chicken, or Baja Fresh for a burrito as big as my forearm. Nothing worse than not taking in enough calories for the ride home. Once in a while, if dinner is super tasty and there are leftovers, I'll pack them in, but that's pretty rare.

I used to pack sandwiches in a sturdy plastic container. Now I keep canned pasta and tinned tuna at the office. I too have a shopping center with groceries, restaurants and fast food about 2/3 of a mile from the office. There's also a factory with dining hall open to the public just a 1/3 of a mile away, and it has showers, although I've never made use of them.

I would usually bring a giant honking salad or a few sandwiches and occasionally leftovers. That with several pieces of fruit.

Bike commuting days = Massive quantities of: leftovers + lots of fruit + yogurt/granola.
On days i don't commute: same as above, (but I probably should take less)

Big salad, apple, nuts, chocolate, leftovers or sandwich. Sometimes pb&honey for midmorning. I never eat out, sometimes go for a swim at lunch hour.

Fruit and nuts; I sometimes treat myself to a donut. I drink coffee. Breakfast is my big meal. I usually eat chicken noodle soup before I ride and on the way to work, buy a couple of tacos to eat in my office (I get there 20 minutes early most days). All day long, I drink water.

My wife packs a lunch for me every day.
2 granola bars
Cheese stick
Small bag of snack chips
Celery sticks with peanutbutter
Sandwich
2 cookies
Jello cup
Gingerale
Muscle milk
Water
It may seem like a lot, but includes breakfast, and most days are 9 to 10 hours with plenty of physical activity.

Anything the cafeteria is serving. Usually its some sort of rice and meat along with a soda or Gatorade with some fruit from the salad bar.

The usual lunch consists of a sandwich, chips, fruit, dessert or granola. Company provides water and V8 juice which I drink for lunch. I bring a thermos of coffee every morning. Rarity to bring leftovers from home for lunch, but sometimes I do. Breakfast is either pop tarts (my kryptonite) or steel cuts oats from the cafeteria ($1.25 for a honkin' bowl with raisins and brown sugar!!!)

typically almonds, banana, maybe an orange, maybe a boiled egg. leftovers occasionally, Amy's froze dins mostly, sammies sometimes, granola bars sometimes, lots of water, with heavy chugging 2 hours before the ride home. even though i've learned that it always sounds much better than it is, every once in awhile i'll tromp down to the cafeteria to have their bbq special. sometimes walk out to local eateries with workmates or have a lunch date with my girl. had an invite from a workmate to go foraging for street tree food. haven't taken up on that. raw broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots are good if you're hungry-munchy but don't want the calories. i try to ingest relatively clean fuel, mostly.

I never make it to lunch. I eat 12 almonds maybe a bagel or some toast around 10am, leftovers for lunch and 2-3 pieces of fruit during the day plus some dates. I keep a stash of clif bars at work if I need something before the ride home. I burn about 1600 Cals commuting so I need to eat fairly regularly.

Just before I leave home (~4:00AM), I have the first part of breakfast:
- Rockmelon
- Pineapple
- Kiwi fruit
The rest of breakfast I take with me and have when I get to my desk at work.
- Grapes
- Banana
- Summer months: Stone fruit (peaches, apricots, plums, etc)
- Winter months: Apple, Mandarin, Pear
At the moment I'm transitioning to the winter diet, so there's whatever stone fruit I can lay my hands on, then supplemented with winter diet items.
Since I start early, I usually finish that around 8AM or so, at which point I've been working for 2 hours.
Actual lunch is whatever I can get up the road from my workplace, my budget being AU$10 (I may have to increase that a little bit). Unless we have leftovers from the previous night that I brought in (rare).

Sandwich from homemade bread, leftovers, etc. I try not to eat out very often. Once in a while, some bike-commuting colleagues will gang up and go to a nearby asian restaurant that's decent but cheap.

Salad, fruit, and granola bars. I also eat a biggish breakfast in two parts. Oatmeal or cream of rice with fruit before I leave, then coffee with granola or cereal bars when I get to work. Fridays I sometimes treat myself to an egg, bacon, and cheese biscuit at McDonald's on my way to work.

What's lunch? Somewhere during the work day I'll eat a banana, a couple celery W/PB, an apple or orange, possibly a granola bar or beef stick. If I should happen to get to my office and sit down I might have some cheese & crackers. That's pretty much it from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM

Usually whatever is good in company cafeteria, Chirashi if the line is short and payday was recent, curry or Mexican the rest of the time. When we go out, gyros, Japanese, Indian buffet or Costco.

Depends on where my trip takes me, and how many coins and bills i have. But generally i try to get in 2 sushi lunches a month, with the rest being something from grocery store deli (wrap, hoagie, sandwich). occasionally i will stop in at starbucks or 7-11 or one of the "sit down" resturants, and sometimes in summer i'll stop in and grab a custom salad (pasta/spinach base, ham, shrimp, avocado, artichoke, egg & green goddess dressing) from saladworks. On days when sitting down for a meal is impractical, i grab a pint or quart of chocolate milk either wawa double dutch from wawa the day before or in my travels elsewhere in the dday (transit) or kreider farms from Mccafreys market in town.

I burn a lot of calories during the day.. I need to eat few meals per day to keep up my energy levels. I choose foods which are dense and have high caloric value.
