WTB Vintage Road Bike ~58cm
Hi, I am looking for a vintage bicycle (+/- 58cm C-T frame) in good to mint condition and ready to ride to replace my '94 Specialized Allez Pro (full campy 8spd groupset, speed shifters).
I would prefer something made in the 80's to 90's, but am open to whatever you folks have.
I am based in Toronto and would be happy to meet anywhere within a few hours drive, and am open to any bikes located south of the border.

Can't imagine replacing the Allez, most of us hold them in pretty high regard.
Can we have a pic plz?

If I find the same frame for sale I would likely pay more than it's worth for sentimental reasons, but they are far and few between these days.

I am with merziac, I love my 94 Allez Pro although I did go with a Carbon fork, frame is well below 5#. What are you looking for, bargain, local, Italian, Custom, under 20#, lots of chrome, Campy, a project, does a 58 CTc 58 work, etc. As an example I have two 58s a Pinarello Asolo and a CIOCC Designer '84 for sell locally.

I would say both. Unfortunately one of the seat stays is now bent. She's rideable, and I will probably keep her for as long as I live seeing as she's my first road bike. And still as quiet and smooth as ever.

Strongly encourage you to seek out a frame builder to straighten the Pro, Call Marinoni and ask if they know of someone close to you or send/take it to them, they always do what they can to help, fantastic folks, welcome the opportunity and are the one of the best at what they do as well as usually being very affordable.
And of course full speed ahead on adding to your fleet.

Since the OP is in the Toronto area, I'd try Michael Barry at Bicycle Specialties, home of Mariposa frames and bicycles.

I am looking for 56-58cm C-T bike with a lugged nut steel frame, my budget is under $1,000, Italian or otherwise. A project, most likely, yes, as I do love to work on my bike.

A few years ago I bought a Ritchey fork on sale to experiment with and tried it on two frames, rough roads, high speed declines, cornering . On a Vitus 979 I got nothing out of it and then tried the Allez Pro and got the opposite impression, it had a new home. I rotate through some nice customs and Italians with the Allez always in the mix.

I haven't much to add to JaccoW 's post. Reynolds 531 main triangle. They slotted in right below the Champion Mondial in the line-up. AFIK they also came from Gazelle's racing department.
Nice, good quality frame, but they tend to sell slowly in my area as most people prefer to spend a little more for the Champion Mondial name.

They're non-butted frame right?

They do seem to have gone up in price. Currently I see them for sale between €125 to around €350 whereas I believe I've seen them for sale for as low as €50 a few years ago.

There have been different versions of the Tour de l'Avenir, and I can't be sure about the tubing used on all of them. But the ones I have seen had a decal indicating a 531 straight gauge main triangle.

Not challenging T-Mar but I've used Jody Lee of Jester as has Bertinjim and he is really reasonable for his repairs

I believe they are. They have on their website, "Starting at $4,400 CDN / $3,495 USD" for new frames. That's safely out of my budget at the moment but I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for listings with used Mariposas.

Those are the - optimistic - asking prices. If you check the actual bids, the highest is €90. Coincidentally, that particular bid is from someone I happen to know, and may well have been made after a drink or two.
