I haven't done PCH in a while. Actually since they put the new path to Carpenteria . I used to see Whales and dolphin quite often. Last year at Eroica California we saw Whale spouts in the distance while riding to the Piedras Blancas light house . I live in Santa Paula so most of my riding now is through the citrus orchards and the smell is amazing , and the occasional crossing of a coyote in front of me. Do you bike throughout Ojai? Before kids, I did Sisar, Gridley, Sulfur Mountain and River Preserve on my MTB. No cycling for me. Though I can imagine that cycling on the 150 and the 33 would be quite cool.

There are several rides I do where you crest a hill and you are either rewarded with an amazing view of nearby ridges, or you are rewarded with series of rolling hills going down through the next valley - as opposed to view of the next upward slog, or a screaming downhill leading to the next steep uphill...
One little thing that always makes me happy - going over any bridge or biking along any stream. There is something about biking near moving water that just always makes me go ahhhh!

Yesterday's roll-up on my driveway to the opening garage door put into motion by pressing the button on the auto-controller located in my left rear pocket and knowing that 71 miles were completed without becoming horizontal during the ride.

I cycle from East Santa Paula to Ventura Harbor and then to downtown and back to Santa Paula giving me about 40 miles round trip. I rarely do Ojai . I like wider roads than the 150 . I used to go on Foothill to get to Ventura but again too narrow so I stick with Telegraph. There are side roads that go between Foothill and Telegraph to mix the ride up a bit , all through citrus orchards with very little traffic.

Did a fairly relaxed 50 km ride, about half of it through forests on fire roads. The recent rains have compacted the sand so those sandy fire roads that are barely rideable at all in summer (on my 38 mm tires) now are firm and smooth. Pure riding joy!

A friend and I were riding under a freeway overpass that is quite congested (Powell and I80) . A homeless lady was sitting at the cross button and hit it well before we got there. We thanked her as we passed and she beemed with a big "welcome". That's all she was looking for...

Sometimes on an early morning ride, I'll pass a bakery, small restaurant, or even a food plant and get a whiff of what's cookin'. Somehow that always makes the ride better.

On a recent ride over the weekend, my front light was dying and wouldn't stay put and I hadn't intended on it but ended up getting back from what I was doing late luckily I had my little battery bank and my phone and used my phone as a crude front light in my Surly Moloko Adjunct Personal Effects Receptacle. It actually worked out great and kept me from getting hit. My rear light was fine. It gave me some joy to know I had some light. Granted I need to find my Light and Motion stuff I misplaced it and since I haven't been riding late or if I plan on that will take a bike with dynamo so no worries I haven't needed it much.

This was yesterday but road the local MUP not as usual. Nice and not crowded but enjoyed helping a small group and a new rider patch her flat tire.
