Shimano 11 speed /10 speed compatibility

Hello,

I have seen lots of info out there on interchangeability of drive trains, a lot of good stuff from Sheldon Brown, but this combo is using a bit newer components than his info covered at the time, so I was not able to find out if anyone has tried this or has any idea if it would work:

Any possible compatibility for 11 speed Shimano DA Shifters to 10 speed Shimano cassette?

I can use either 10 speed or 11 speed rear derailer.. and can use either 10 speed or 11 speed chain.. a little noise does not bother me.. Main reason for this as is so often true, is I got good deals on the parts and would like to use them to upgrade from my 8 speed system.

Just wondered if this could work.. the info I have so far is that 11 speed spacing on the cogs is 2.18 mm and 10 speed is 2.35mm, Jtek shiftmate does not seem to have a combo like this listed for it's pulleys.

thanks for any reply..

Jeff

You could probably put an 11-speed cassette on an 8/9/10-speed hub by removing the smallest cog then set the derailleur limits so it stays in that range.

I don't see how this can work. The shifters move the cable a prescribed amount which is appropriate to only one size cassette.
