Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would like to buy one subscription. Which is the best for a road cyclist who would like to learn more about tactics, nutrition, and cycle repair?

Thanks.

You can't really learn a ton from magazines. Bicycling is a decent read at times. Most people here hate magazines.

You should look for a good book.

Since I found BF I don't need no stinking subscriptions.

I used to subscribe to Velo News and still read it on-line. If you really want a little something to read made of paper while conducting other business it's not bad. Weekly except for certain times of the year. (This advice is probably only good for the U.S. More advanced countries will have more options)

Yea, I get a lot of info from this forum. I guess the BF and the various links is all that one really needs.

I like Bike for the photos, and Bicycle Times for the down to earth, regular rider vibe. Too much emphasis on the super expensive Unobtainium bikes in the other mags.

Yeah, BF and some good books.

The Chris Carmichael ones are pretty popular these days.

Seems like with most magazines these days, it's hard to tell the advertisements from the articles.

I'm a newbie who's learning, so my first option is forums etc. However, I enjoy chilling out reading magazines (I have 1000s of hot rod mags dating back to the '60s) so I get my bike magazine fix by buying older copies via online auction sites. Got 25 cycling mags from the last four years for $15 NZ, about US$11 I think. At that price you can pick out what's relevant and ditch the rest. I'm not able to afford all the latest gear (I ride a 2004 OCR2 I got off an online aucion) so the fact that the ads in older magazines are outdated isn't a prob.
