Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Does anyone know what this bike is?? I need it in my life!!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for the bike which I've attached. I think it's Japanese and I'm pretty sure it's a carbon fibre seat post...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a very early softride frame; back when it was a unnamed division of office supply conglomerate allsop (and still is).

We had a newer carbon one show up on CL here recently. Keep your eyes peeled, they pop up every now and then.

I do believe that's the first risered one I've seen

The Japanese have been making ridiculous bikes and Softrides are often converted to fixed gears.

Dunno if they still do since hardly any road bikes have round, horiz. top tubes these days but you used to be able to buy the diving board separately and clamp to whatever frame you wanted to/could

Can't wait to see what bsnyc sez about fixed softridezzz

Kinda surprized they didn't come out til 89. They were instantly adopted by the Tri and LD crowds

I kinda like those. How much does an entry-level (read: cheap) one of those go for?

i trash picked one years ago, surprisingly it was an XL and fit me well, i rode it fixed with a halflink/magic gear ratio until a crack started on the drive side chain stay at which point i returned it from whence it came

If you guys look closely it looks like its a bmx frame upside down. Look behind the crank it looks like there's more frame. I'm guessing a homegrown version of the softride. If your looking there was one on the Seattle Craigslist the other day.

But the crank is still on the bottom. And that's a hell of a downtube for BMX. Searching for allsop softride finds a bunch of similar frames.

That's my hometown!! Kona's from up there too.
I've never seen a softride around bellingham. I'm curious where in town they were made.

Just realized their HQ is down an alley behind a sex shop and a sketchy gas station. The bikes part of their website is off the navigation but you can still get there via this link: https://www.softride.com/bikes/
