I would love to do this ride. Anybody got a tall English bike I could use for the day and maybe take home with me?

Hey Russell,
We should set a start time for the ride.
If you're camping at Stub Stewart, do you want to ride down to Banks where most of us will start, then ride up to Vernonia, have lunch, then turn around and drop you back off at Stub Stewart? Alternately we could just ride up and meet you at Stub Stewart, up to Vernonia and back, which would be about half the full route.
To time it with typical lunch time, leaving from Banks at around 10am usually works.

Let me just say a three speed supercourse is the perfect way to negotiate Estes park.

A 3-speed would be sufficient for this ride. There's one place where the trail crosses Hwy 47 at grade at a point where there must have been a bridge back when there were train tracks. It's the steepest down and up on the course, but mercifully short. Many get off and use their two foot granny gear for a few hundred yards.

I also would have joined the McKenzie Pass ride, but Father's Day activities had me on a tandem with my daughter. Next year!
Have fun, y'all!

I have the day off so I’m coming to you live from the scenic and lovely Banks Trailhead! Just a few notes from my reconnaissance.
- It’s bumpy in spots. Like bounced me outta my saddle bumpy. 80 psi is not advised. Trust me on this one.
- It will be a holiday weekend so the trail might be thick with travelers.
- If you’re getting to the trailhead via Google,
make sure you specify which trailhead.
- Insects were thick. I sucked in something but I’m still alive so I have that going for me.
- Why do I bother owning anything besides Brooks saddles?
- I found out what kind of shape I’m in. Pear-shaped.
Map. (Duh!) I went to ~mile 7.5 and turned around. 90+ degrees and that was all my flabby butt could handle.
I believe these are at all trailheads. This one is at the start in Banks, FYI.
Noble steed did well on its first real voyage. NDS, sue me…

- It will be a holiday weekend so the trail might be thick with travelers. We've done group rides on holiday weekends before. The worst I've seen is a bunch of noobies stopped in the middle of the trail. Bring a bell, or practice your "onyerleft!" voice.
- If you’re getting to the trailhead via Google, make sure you specify which trailhead. Just go to the Banks trailhead,
- Insects were thick. I sucked in something but I’m still alive so I have that going for me. Free protein!
- Why do I bother owning anything besides Brooks saddles? Excellent point!
- I found out what kind of shape I’m in. Pear-shaped. We don't discriminate between pear, apple, or other fruit shapes.
