I'm not 100% on which model it is, as the stickers were removed before I got it, but based on the rear brake mount and brazed-on front derailleur mount, it's most likely an Elite.

Anyways, if anyone has one for sale around a 58cm, I'd love to take a look! Preference for a white one, but open to all colors!
Not sure where you're located but if you search FB marketplace or Kijiji in the Toronto area there is always a Miele for sale. FYI they don't go cheap.

Wow, what a thread. I have a 1988 or 1989 lupa that i bought in 1989, but it's been off the road for years now with a stuck seatpost that I couldn't remove. Still have the 105 groupset too. Tempted to build it back up seeing all these photos, if anyone could recommend a shop in the Toronto area who could get the seatpost out safely.

My neighbor, who sees me wrenching on bikes in the backyard all the time, told me of this bike in his attic that he hasn't ridden in over 30 years. Asked me clean it up and get it ride ready for him.

88 Elite - has Italian threaded BB shell

Hi all as a follow up to my earlier post my 88 Elite definitely has Italian threaded BB shell. Now to decide whether to put SRAM Rival 22 or Shimano 600 tricolor on there.

So, I was shopping for tires for my previously mentioned Miele gravel project and happened across this little tidbit so I grabbed one along with some tires...

Miele branded 1-1/8" top cap

I'm curious if Carl Miele allowed them to use his world wide trademark for Miele or if this brand is isolated to Canada.

I think there's some confusion about the Miele name in regards to the bikes that are the focus of this thread. Most of the Miele bikes shown above were made by Miele Bike company founded by Jim Miele who was an Italian immigrant who came to Canada and was not satisfied with the bikes he found over here so he started to make his own. He used the knowledge he had from back home to make a bike similar to the Italian racing bikes he was familiar with and the manufacturing was done here in Toronto, Canada. He built up an esteemed reputation with his earlier racing bikes and they became as popular as the top European brands. His company grew quickly and he eventually expanded out to mountain bikes, hybrids, ect... but started to run out of resources. He passed away young, in 2003 but leaving the company to his family.

They eventually shut down business but I believe the sold the name to some other company which I believe is the Miele bike you see from janthenat's post. These were not considered real Mieles by those who own the originals.

I am no historian and if T-Mar still frequents the forums, he would be able to provide way more information than I have. He is our resident bike historian and knows everything about CDN bike industry.

try Malcolm at Biseagal on Carlaw... he's removed many for me and many shops I've worked at.

I have a 1988 Miele Aries (pink frame w/ gunmetal gray fork, kalloy stem w/ brake roller, and handlebars

It came equipped with mostly '87 Suntour XCD and Dia Compe 290 batwing brake levers.

I was wondering if anyone knew which series it was? 400? 500? 600? etc

It has an Ishiwata MTB Double Butted decal. Made in Canada sticker on head tube.

Thanks

I have an Aries of around the same vintage - mine is a 500 with a full Shimano Exage Trail group set. Ignore the made in Canada on the headstock; I believe the Aries series were all imported.

Would you say it's most likely made in Japan? Reminds me of other 80s Japanese ATB/MTB's I've owned

I believe so - do you have a serial number - sometimes that can help.

Given what I learned from T-Mar about my own bike that that serial number format likely indicates a Taiwan manufacturer and looks like 1986 November build so a 1987 model?

btw: I love the way mine rides so can highly recommend you build yours up.

T-Mar is the real expert, but I believe that one came after Jim Miele shut his business down and someone else bought up the rights......

I have one of these. I think it’s 1989 but could be 1990. Everything looks original except the saddle and wheels. This would have come with an Iscaselle saddle, or at least mine did. The original rims were Ambrosio for Miele and hubs would have been 105.

I love riding mine, which is all original except for new saddle and new rear wheel because the original bent. Like a poster above, I would love to get another Ambrosio for Miele rim to put back on it.

Need Help with Model etc

I'm looking to find out the possible model name and tube type as I have two Miele's and want to know which frame is better as I will build them up differently if the frame quality is vastly different.
The serial number dates the unknown model to Oct 1985 (so 1986 model, or 1985?). The Shimano 600 components also date 1985 (JJ)
The bike was repainted and has no decals but seller told me it was a Miele. Seat Tube is 27.2mm, Originally had Biopace chainrings and Shimano 600 Brake Levers.

Detailed pictures of bike in question in my Profile Album

My other Miele is a Pink Alizee with Ishiwata 022 Quad Butted Tubes, Forks & Stays with Suntour Sprint components

I don't know what it is, but it's not a beta since your bike has rack eyelets. Still, it looks like it's a nice bike
