Bikes: Miyata 610(66cm), GT Vantara Hybrid (64cm), Nishiki International (64cm), Peugeot rat rod (62 cm), Trek 800 Burning Man helicopter bike, Bob Jackson frame (to be restored?) plus a never ending stream of neglected waifs from the Bike exchange.

80's Pinarello
Another day, another choice bike.
Last weekend I saw this frame sitting in the storeroom at the Bike Exchange where new donations go before they are sorted. It looks like this one is a real gem . It is a Pinarello, I am pretty sure it's an 80's Montello. It appears that the paint may have been a multicolor job with blue at the head tube, orange at the bottom bracket and green at the top of the seat tube with white in between. The forks and stays are all chrome. Does anyone know or have pictures of a paint scheme like that?
Once again I am uncertain whether to paint or not. Would it be better to just sell the frame as is, Have it powder coated white , or resprayed in Rustoleum Automotive white paint.
If painted I have the correct Campi group for it . With a decal set it should be a stunner but some folks insist that leaving it as found is best. As always the goal is to sell it for as much as we can to finance our non proffit. Then again, I really like doing the restoration bit.

The paint scheme is called spumoni.
It looks like someone has painted it black over the original paint - could the black be removed? Looks like it’s well on its way.
Factory spumoni is quite desirable, so I would think if it can be retained it would maximise the sale price.

It's likely all chrome under the paint. That's tough to get even quality paint to stick to. I don't think Rust-Oleum is a good idea. If you plan to keep it, powder coat would be OK. If you're looking for maximum resale, I'd try to strip the black paint as other have suggested and if it still doesn't look good use a chemical paint stripper to take it down to the bare chrome. The stays and fork are probably polished chrome, so be careful with sanding there. The main tubes won't have been polished, so any additional scratching you do won't be so bad. Once it's bare, you've left a good canvas for the next owner to work with and decide what to do.
