Thanks, I know I get a great deal of satisfaction from it when it's over. As long as I don't have to walk up the "wall" I'm generally happy as long as I finish. It's a good time all around. The suffering is exceptional.

Reminds me of something.
Couple years ago on the annual men's trip to Kentucky. We had a feller join us that was...otherwise directed. He gets lost easy because he's not paying attention. Easily distracted.. So he broke his rear shift cable on the biggest day milage wise, around 85 of 110 miles. It was hot...in the 90's. So I rigged his cable into his quick release and adjusted his derailuer for something spinable, mid cassette. Now he can ride with us, and he's got 2 gears.
So off we go. 5 minutes later he's off on his own.....again.
Later that night I dug a chunk of cable very much like the one you pictured out of his D/A shifter. And installed a Walmart cable to finish out the trip.
Ahhh good times...

Throw the stick!!!!
Thank ya, I'm trying. The last century I did (Storming of Thunder Ridge) pretty much kicked my butt. I'm going to have to take it somewhat easy this week prior to next weekend's century (Horsey Hundred).

Today is my friend's birthday, the guy who buys me pizza a lot, so today I will buy him a slice. My other friend who got the e-bike is supposed to be there and now his wife has an e-bike, too. This will be the first time I've been riding with 2 e-bikes on the ride. I'll be back in the role of the slowest rider again unless someone slower shows up. It's casual Tuesday, they'll wait.

I had my Campy Potenza front shifter lever snap at about mile 120 of a 200-mile race, leaving me stuck in the 34-tooth little ring for the final 80 miles. It sucked at the time but I sure do get a lot of mileage out of it because it was just one of several things that went wrong that day.
Sometimes the misery is worth the cheap attention you get whenembellishing telling people about your epic ride.

As a Solitary Cyclist, sadly, none of the adversity making my "epic" rides more epic happened to anyone else.
