I think its the same as with conventional bikes. Its personal choice. In my case my original bike came with hydraulic.brakes, the eBike conversion kit came with "cut out switched" hand brakes for mechanical brakes. I have no use for them. I like the Hydraulic, but I also know they require more attention then mechanical.
