The original 29'ers? Looks like enough clearance for normal knobbies in the 700c/29'er size. But why haven't I seen one configured that way?

More or less….Yes the original ‘29er. They came with YUGE knobbies, 700x45 for this one. Sadly, like my Project 3, I believe most spent more time on roads and rail trails than in the woods. I had an incident that could have been real dangerous so I never mountain biked alone much, but the few times I ran my P-3 on the Single Track course we used for the weekly time trial it flew!

This bike is a ‘92 all Infinity Deore XT.

‘91 was the first year and the 5 was a Suntour bike. The ‘92 was probably $10-20 more retail. The 7 was pretty awesome.

My 1993 Project 3 ready to terrorize the MUP! Avocet FasGrip x32 found NOS around 2003, Scott AT-2 LF, rock ring, brake stiffener, Woody’s fenders, and strangely Trek Cosmo (I think) rims. I was given the rims to try them out and oddly never used them while working at that shop.

Thanks. Didn't realize it could be that old.
But of course, in the 80s, "2001" was cool... before everyone panicked about the Y2k bug

EDIT: It's a 1983 per vintagetrek.com.
Tange Mangalloy + panels nails it down.
Nothing special but I bet it rides nice.
I was a COBOL programmer in 1983 (riding a then-new '82 Trek 613 in 531 and the same colorway as the bike you posted, BTW), and we were actually VERY aware of the looming Y2K issue. But hardware (especially storage) was expensive then, and the thinking was that well before the end of the century, storage would be cheaper and all the systems would be re-written in 4GL database languages that could handle 4-digit years inherently. Well, storage got cheap, and those technologies emerged as expected. But too many decision makers insisted on retaining archaic systems, so those last few years of the '90s, there was a scramble. Banks were the worst, I've heard, with some stand-alone apps still using COBOL from the '80s.

Still, any branding with "2000" or "2001" back then was cool. Remember Gateway 2000? ("Computers from Iowa?" was their slogan; Trek could easily have hijacked it with "Bikes from Wisconsin?")

The seller is one of our members, as I found out about this via a post I read last night. If this fit me, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/bnc...539618098.html

Early 1960's frame, size is 56 cm square with 120 mm rear spacing. Seat post diameter is 26.4mm with good quality tubing. Made in Nice, France the frame has nervex lugs, fork crown and bottom bracket shell, fish mouth stay and fork ends, Simplex forged dropouts and wrap around chain stays at seat lug.

Nice riding and responsive as expected with the relaxed geometry. Comes with water bottle cage, bottom bracket and Huret down tube shifters.

I’m not certain I see $800 am I missing something?

I believe there is 🧵 asking this but is there a general way to date these? Did 🎅 build bikes with Lemond’s name for sale? I believe 10spd Drive imported these for a time, did anyone else bring them before trek destroyed the name?
