I've crushed 2 and felt a little bad about it each time, but there's plenty left in Upstate SC.

Same here. Got him w’ front wheel of gravel bike. He kept going & back wheel missed him. They still give me pause, especially when I’m booking it on a road bike.
Somewhat related, I find that rabbits get the hell outta the way well in advance of my approach.

Mountain goats just watch you go by, hoping you'll stop to pee.

Recently I was passing through a park and a small dog ran straight into my front wheel. So I ran it over with my front then rear wheel. This woman screamed and I stopped to check my wheels. Then I proceeded to spark my blunt. To help me contemplate what had just happened.

Lately on the rides I do there have been a lot of squirrels doing the last minute dash of death across my front wheel. In every case I’ve just kept my line and hoped for the best.
After a recent unrelated crash I am paranoid of breaking my collarbone again as I’m still healing.
Are crashes with squirrels getting caught in the wheels common or is this just the post crash jitters?
wtf is with these squirrels making them dash across? Is it the freehub noise?

I did once have a squirrel dodge into my deep-section wheel. It yelped from the shoulder, probably concussed. It could have waited half a second to cross behind me...

That’s so odd I wonder what the physiological is behind animals doing that. Take rabbits for example they are herbivores aren’t they? A white light. Likely not food. It’s what then if not a predator. That it would normally run away from and not in front of. Random thought.
maybe you wouldn’t have this problem with a red light. Or red tint on your light.
