I've been reading a ton of reviews of helmets, and then trying to figure out which ones I can actually buy in the size and color I want. The Sphere has my attention, but there's a couple of issues mentioned in reviews that have me hesitant. I would really like an Abus Airbreaker, but haven't been able to find one to buy. Same issue with the Scott Centric Plus.

what helmet would you guys recommend for kind of an oblong shaped head? Not extreme just not perfectly round. Like the front and back could fit snugly and the sides be a little too loose

Unless the hemet is damaged, I see no need to replace it. I have seen no scientific evidence--yes, I still believe in science--suggests the helmet is compromised with age. When I see it, I will change helmets.

I ended up with the Scott Centric Plus. I spent a while at my LBS, and tried on the upper-end offerings from Lazer, Kask, Spec, Bell, Giro, Smith, and Scott. The Scott was immediately "right" for size, fit, and comfort. First ride was 2 hours of MTB in warm temps, and it was everything I wanted - light, airy, and comfortable. My previous Abus Aventor was terrible for airflow at the forehead, but this Scott was excellent. For me, it's a winner, especially with a 5-star rating on the VA Tech test.

One of the things I learned this time around was what to look for at the forehead. Having air channels behind the forehead pad is critical for good flow. The Abus Aventor lacks them. Running around the store to check airflow wouldn't have gone over very well - LOL.

Also, while you're trying them on wear your sunglasses and bend over into a tuck position to see if the fit is good there too. I had one helmet that caused me to crane my neck into an uncomfortable position while riding, but felt perfect while sitting up.

i think keeping them out of the sun would keep them in better overall condition than leaving them i the sun
