New Brooklyn Bridge bike lane opening
Today, 9/14/2021, the new Brooklyn Bridge bike lane is set to open after a ceremony by BdB on the Manhattan side at 2:15. I'll be there to ride in the first official group over, although some people have already done it. The Mayor wanted this done as a final legacy of his administration. Maybe BdB wasn't so bad but Cuomo sure made him look foolish all the time. Good riddance to both of them.
They have taken one Manhattan bound lane from the road and turned it into a 2 way bike lane, with new approaches at both ends. As usual though, after the new bike lane was painted on Centre St, the cops started parking in it before the paint even dried.

Snuck a “preview ride” last week. Gonna try and make that opening but it’s gonna be tight. Better start pedaling...
Update: So, I told my wife where I was going. She thought it’d be fun to come along. No big deal, still might’ve made it. But then she tells her dad. Long story short, no way in heck he gets here, to our place, before 2:30.
Mark my words. Said it here as evidence for later lol.

I made it there with my adult daughter in plenty of time. BdB did not show up, the commissioner of DOT did. Everybody gave a quick speech, about 10 people, they cut the ribbon and off we went at about 2:45 and I was home by 3:30.
Next on everyone's agenda was the Queensboro Bridge, with only one mention of the Verrazano. I think the Staten Island crossing is more important as there is no other way

We probably got there as you were walking through your front door. It was still a nice ride.
The Verrazano definitely has to be the next.
Anyone interested can take a look at harborring.org for information regarding a possible pedestrian/bicycle pathway on the Verrazano bridge. There’s a petition you can sign, too.
