FS: '84 Trek 420 Frameset
howdy -
My TREK 420 is too small for me. I would like to find the framset a new home. I'm open to a frame-swap for something similar (or identical!) but a 58 ~ 60cm seattube length.
Here are the frame measurements:
56cm ST CtC (58cm crank center to top of seat tube)
55cm TT CtC
104cm wheelbase
44cm chainstay
I am open to offers for the frameset: frame / fork / headset / bottom bracket
I would like to get to $150, plus whatever shipping is. I know! That's dang optimistic!! ... but hey, if you don't ask....
I am planning to keep the wheelset. I have plans for the NITTO stem.
SHIMANO 600 Components have been sold: crankset, F/R derailleur, non-aero brake levers
component pics here: https://www.bikeforums.net/g/album/22509619
Current config is right here: https://www.bikeforums.net/22235661-post2016.html
- not quite the current configuration, but pretty close.
thanks for shopping

Show a close up of the paint!
I remember the day after I got mine, seeing that Imron in the morning sun was the most magical thing for me.

paint on the bike is not perfect. so an interested buyer should use that as an excuse to talk my price down......

As far as components, I am open to selling some things. I am planning to keep the wheelset. I have plans for the NITTO stem.
component pics here: https://www.bikeforums.net/g/album/22509619 (I have non-aero brake levers that match the front/rear derailleurs and crankset. I no longer have the DT shifters or brake calipers that match.....)
Current config is right here: https://www.bikeforums.net/22235661-post2016.html

All of those would fit big tires but would not feel very sporty.
Any interest in a big tire, not sporty trade? One pic i had handy.

a quick bump. to mark the day. the day my 2 year old GUNNAR crosshairs cracked around the bottom bracket.
is cathartic swearing allowed on the BF-boards?
ok. thanks for reading.
make an offer. hurray as I am contemplating the offer of the TIG welded TREK previously mentioned. i can lower the price. that's what is meant by "make an offer". . . . on the other hand, if you'd like to offer more than asked, i think we can work out a deal.

I think I might have the same year 460 hanging around (just reminded me of the out of sight, out of mind stash), but I am guessing the same size...I picked it up from someone who was about to hack off the derailleur mount to make a fixie. It is half sanded and un-decal-ed. I'll check the size but likely also 22.5" (57cm)

sort of a bump.
it’s still for sale. Several BF-members patiently corresponded with me about swaps. I guess indecision is a decision of sorts.
after cleaning the frame a bit I’ll throw out this as a sales offer:
Frameset; headset; bottom bracket; long reach Tecktros; seat post: $150
(Tektros? TechTros? TeeckTroes?)
- make an offer, as mentioned before.
probably I won’t bump again. I’ll just build it up as a flat bar cruiser and let it live at my in-laws as a holiday Coffee Cruiser.
…. or maybe in the next 5 minutes I’ll decide to do that anyway…. I got lots of parts laying around…..
places I was not careful to protect the paint
my garage is a mess!! Look at this!!

That is my vote.
And I cannot even see the floor of my garage right now, and you can park cars in yours! I haven't parked a car in my garage since 1998...

You obviously need to clear some things out… so you can fit more bikes in there!
I highly recommend turning it into a flat bar café runner at the in-laws. I did that with my ‘81 412 and it is heavenly. Sometimes I just need to get out of the house and go for a ride - the Trek abides.
