Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like rain in the forecast for our NYC afternoon. Yay. Hopefully it'll be light rain and I can still squeeze in a spin.

It was super wet this morning (TWSS) so I decided to go out on lunch when it dries a bit. Hope you get a chance to go.

WhyFi question for you - what do I need to service my BBRight tool wise other than the Shimano crank tool and torque wrench? Was going to grease / replace the bearings since it's getting creaky. I'm tired of paying to have someone do this for me so I figured I'd give it a shot.

It's larger than a splined Shimano BB, so if you want to remove/replace it, you need a different tool. Not sure about leaving the BB shell in place and just removing the bearings, but that would probably be more $$$ in tools unless you've already got bearing pullers.

I guess I'll just start with grease and go from there.

Raining now in Philly. Looks like between 1 and 3 would be the best time for you. Nothing major in the forecast. Looks like scattered showers.

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't have much any flexibility in my ride window: it's 3 - 6pm or nothing.

More likely to be the shell creaking in the frame, from what I've seen. You'll need a set of drifts to replace the bearings anyway. What kind of BB is it?

I'm guessing it's the stock Cervelo BB.

If it's the old standard 2-piece BB, it might be a better bet just to replace with a screw-together or one-piece shell, rather than investing in the tools to do the bearings and then having to get another set to do the shell if it's still creaking. I sure wish you could rent this stuff!

Actually, the updated forecast I see now says that will probably be the best time. Rain through 1 pm. Looks to stop by 2.

I signed up for an event that's in 3 weeks but for some reason that I can't remember now I did not purchase the additional event cancellation insurance which was remarkably stupid of me given, you know, everything. Anyway at this point I probably won't attend because of the surge in cases which I doubt will be any better in 3 weeks so I guess I'm just out $70.

We've got a wedding up in @datlas country at the beginning of September. Might have to pull out of that or maybe just go to the party the night before, which is outdoors. We're in for at least another year of this ****, I'm afraid.

My sailing would likely be limited to the friendly waters of the Tennessee River watershed.

I'm thinking 70F is the cutoff point for any kind of water sport.

That's a thing now? Huh - I'd totally do that. I mean, I hate all of the add-on warranty stuff at Best Buy and the like, but cancellation insurance with these conditions? Sign me up.
