1996 steel GT Edge refresh

So my local co-op got a GT Edge on donation, it looked like it had been sitting unused for a little bit. There was no original fork and the lower Chorus headset cup was cracked. I took it home, did some reading and got to it. Somehow there was a nice NOS 1" threadless headset at the co-op too, so I grabbed that, ordered some new spacers, cleaned up everything best I could and put on some new cables, housing and bar tape. I wanted to post pictures because it's a cool bike and there aren't a ton of pictures of the steel Edge frames online.

It's not perfect but it's much more presentable and actually rideable now. I would buy it myself if it was my size but oh well...

If anyone else has one I'd love to see pictures of yours!

Realized the Campagnolo chain guard sticker looks a lot like rusty frame damage in the picture, but it's not. Aside from like three small spots, the paint is in astonishing shape.

Wow Reynolds 853? Super nice condition. Get rid of the profile stem for a quill stem!

Oh duh re-read and realized this is for the co-op to sell and you have a thread less headset. Let us know the final value when it sells?

very collectible and rare frame, very few of these were made , I think those were built between 1994-1996 if my memory serves right

Here's my Course. Not an Edge, but basically the exact same frame, 853

I ditched the threaded steel fork for a straight bladed threadless carbon. A fairly striking bike in person. Between the Campy and the 853, I call it a Cadillac. I'm sure that Edge rides just as nicely.

PS, I would suggest a longer brake housing piece to connect the rear caliper. Allows you to keep the triangle clear instead of seeing the housing there. Purely aesthetic.

...I'm honestly not sure about the handling on mine. I don't know what to make of it, but it was an interesting project to put back on the road. (Apologies for no brifers in teh brifters forum.)

Very gorgeous and high quality bike , not many were made and they are an aftersought model. A Reynolds 853 frame is always comfy and nervy as well.

853 tubing was one of the best used by GT during a short period, nice bike
