Welcome to Bike Forums. I'm guessing you live in the UK since your currency is £. Ask the folks in the UK Regional subforum for help. They live there. Good luck.

Yea 2000 quid is probably entry level for something decent , with out the VAT added yet.
I'm not Google or Amazon do your own searching .
there are Multinational Brands (Trek/Specialized/ C'dale) and UK specific brands .
Ive heard of 'MuddyFox".. over here .. FW Evans has a bunch of stores around UK .
I only visited the London One in '88, Back then they had British made steel frames
we shopped for a touring bike, a group tour member planned to buy her bike for the upcoming Trip.
that time has Passed.

There's no need to attack someone for asking for help, that's what these forums are for. I do my own searching but as i am not as educated as other people on the subject, asking for a second opinion is not a bad thing. Learn some manners, too

I agree 100%. If we all googled our questions, there would be no reason to visit the forums. Seriously. I too get annoyed when a respondent says "google it". It tells me that he doesn't know the answer to your question but yet longs to sound superior. Newbie queries are often redundant, but they serve to build to online relationships. There are people on this forum whose opinions I've learned to value and others I've learned to ignore.

Thanks dude, nice to have someone on these forums here to help rather than just cause trouble I did look on pauls cycles in the uk aswell, and personally thought as far as bang for buck goes, the Cannondale trigger 4 seemed to catch my eye the most. Is it really worth the extra £1000 for the upgrade to the bike you suggested do you think? From what i heard the leftie forks weren't ever so popular
