Bafang BBSHD Mid Drive Maintenance
So after years of research and thinking about going to the dark side I'm finally made up my mind and I'm going to be installing the Bafang BBSHD kit on my cargo bike. How often (in miles) do you have to do maintenance on it and what kind of maintenance?
I'm probably going to be doing 2,000 miles a year on it.
Since I have a cargo bike, Yuba Mundo Classico, what kind of sprocket (42T, 44T, 46T) should I go with?
Finally, the battery I am going to be purchasing will be a jumbo shark 52V 13Ah 30amp battery. I know the Ah is rather small but I would rather have 2 small batteries than one large one, plus the cargo bike has so much space on it (it's 7 feet long) I could probably put 3 spare 52V 13Ah batteries on it in bags.

Can't say for the BBSHD, but while I don't ride 2,000 off road miles per year on mine (more like 1,000 now since I MTB three times a week), I haven't done anything in six years to a BBS02 and it's still quiet and runs well with a 52V, 14 ah battery.

I have ridden my BBSHD bike for nearly 13,000 miles without maintenance. I am about to take it apart just to have a look before a big trip.

You'll probably need annual chain replacements, other than that, it should be pretty minimal.
Gearing-wise, I'd probably go with the 44T or the 42T, if it's a hilly area. I'm assuming you have the stock 7-speed drivetrain. With a 14T small cog, your top speed is pretty limited unless you go with a pretty big cog.
If you're into projects and upgrades, upgrading to a 9-speed drivetrain would be a big benefit. You can easily get 11-32 cassettes (assuming it's not a freehub), and that would give you significantly more low and high end.

First: Good bike maintenance. Chain, brakes, torque on fasteners lube
Then maybe some grease inside every year or so.
