What year is this Rockhopper?
Hi, I got a rockhopper recently and I am not sure if this is correct
It looks like this
what I got is black and silver
But mine doesn't have the same fork, mine is just a normal fork what looks like really original and matching the bike and it says (direct drive) in red in one of the sides
I did research to see if maybe they also did this one without suspension but looks like they didn't (or I didn't found anything about it)
I also wonder if its true that this bike is one of those "nitanium" ones
sorry I cant put any photos yet, pretty new around here
Thanks for any help

You should post photos assuming you are interested in bikes and want to be part of this forum. Otherwise you probably are going to be set with Google or Ask Jeeves they are super helpful.

Finally
So, this is my bike
And I really thought was one of these but looks like is not
https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/...spx?item=45143
I would really like to know
Also, looks like I can unscrew the the chainrings from the crankset so I wonder if I can just try to get a 76mm BCD 34 or 36t chainring and done (I did google a bit and is hard to find one haha oh god)
Thanks

A bit before Y2K I think. Late steel. The paint looks like Y2K, though. Leftovers? Suspension corrected and 1-1/8 steerer but does not have disc tab.
In Specialized model names, "FS" bikes were front suspension and "FSR" are full suspension. This is counter to everyone everywhere else using "FS" for full suspension. "Comp" and "Pro" are different builds on the same frame. "A1" bikes are aluminum. Steel and aluminum models overlapped around this time, late 90's.
Here's a Y2K Rockhopper Comp A1 FS bike. You can see that the paint is the same style. But the big toothpaste welds, the gussets, the rack mounts built into the seat stay instead of spools brazed on, big dropouts that look like they are cut from plate, lots of other differences. No disc brake mount yet. My 02 Hardrock had disc mounts so the Rockhopper likely got them in 2001

The rust means steal. I bought a new Rockhopper FS in 1998 that was similar style, but aluminum with a Rockshox front suspension fork. Yours must be older than that. It had a wheelset that was the same as your front wheel. It was only an 8 speed though; your shifters, derailer, and rear wheel may have been changed at some point.
I had a 1993 Hardrock. It was steel, with forward facing semi-horizontal dropouts. 7 speed thread on freewheel, not a modern cassette. Yours would be in between those somewhere.

It's weird that there would be a steel rigid Rockhopper in Y2K but the paint and components both say Y2K. 99 and earlier bikes were solid color. It's a fun head scratcher! But close enough unless it's super important.

It's a 2001 model according to someone who has owned the same bike since new.

* Bikepedia & BicycleBlueBook don't have every bike model on their websites
* Some bike models might of only been available in certain countries

Integrated rear derailleur hanger means it's steel. Those are excellent frames. I had mine stripped and powder-coated and did a full custom build. It's a keeper.

Date codes on components
I owned one of these as my first attempt at buying a mountain bike. I think mine had Shimano drive train components so there is a very easy way to tell within a few months of the date it was manufactured. Look for the two letter date code on the inside of the crank arms. Then find the key to interpreting the date here Shimano date codes. You can bet the bike was made within a few months of the date codes. Here is where it appears on my Balance AL450 MTB.
You can verify the frame is steel with any magnet.
