Sorry, forgot to add, there are no decals anywhere else except for the Dawes handbuilt one on the downtube. PO must have striped them off.

Dawes dropout in the rear. Campy seat stem is a 27. Might be crimped too tight. I thought it was a 27.2. Oh well.

Nice pictures! And although I'm originally from the UK, I've never owned a Dawes, having ridden BSAs, Falcons, and Claud Butlers when I was growing up there. The title of your thread caught my attention, and reminded me that if I asked that question of most female Dawes cyclists, I'd be likely to get my face slapped!

…and on the word yours! the poor kid in the centre would suffer the humility of having their underwear exposed as hands would reach out and lift her skirt, which is why our old Ma used to tell us to "always make sure your underwear is clean!"²

Early 70's Galaxy set up as fixed gear.

Finally got around to posting these. 1960 something Galaxy that came via bus from the nice man in Thunder Bay. I decided to upgrade from what was left of the Simplex gears and went with 70's era Shimano. The Suntour shifters are on there cause i had them and like them. Wheels are near mint 27x1" Arayas.
The shade of green isn't too authentic, it should be deeper but its a nice metallic and looks good with the metallic copper. The decals are identical to the tattered remains that were on the frame except for the seat tube decal which was used in the 50's rather than the 60's. The 60's decal with the Dawes coat of arm doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
I stripped the frame to bare metal. Original workmanship was decent except for rather sloppy brazing. Lots of masking needed on this paint job.
Still about six weeks of salt and snow covered roads before i can see how it rides .

Here's my Super Galaxy. I set it up for Randonneuring sans the rack. Took these after a 40 mile ride today. Obviously not as original... but much better! Still has the original sticker from the bike shop in Lansing, England where it was originally sold.

Thanks Auchen, I scoured the internet for the authentic decal. The ones on there came from H Lloyd, I sent a photo of the Dawes coat of arms decal but they told me it wasn't and never would become available. .
I'm hoping this will become my long distance tourer, I've been breaking the Brooks Team-Pro in on the trainer all Winter..

Believe it or not, it came with all the campy stuff on it! All I did was put on the Tektro nutted long reach brakes, and changed out the Nuovo Record RD for a Super Record one to better accept the 28t rear cog. (Made a huge difference) This is my favorite bike!

It's changed a little since this shot and it now has a Carradice bag and a Lloyd bag support and a CLB brake lever instead of that cheap Tektro.

Lovely bike Dawes-man. I've always wondered if the blue and red fades were offered concurrently. (Sometimes I've wondered if they made more than one of each!)

I know that in the catalogue for 1979 only blue was offered. I think the dark red came later.

my cousin just picked this up. I am going to help him get it all freshened up, No big plans for this other than putting some serious miles on it. well that means ofcourse he will need a brooks and some kind of smaller bag as well... for now. it is quite a light weight little bike i must say.

Here's a '82 Atlantis I snatched at a yard sale last week. Seems pretty original except for the touring freewheel a longer Suntour Cyclone jocky pully to handle it. Not sure about Salle Royal set too. Here are a few images after cleaning decades of built of grease and grime off it. I really could use a decal set as it seems the bike was always leaning on the current ones. I did fine a set with Dawes in black vs. the current white on the down tube. No luck on the top tube Atlantis decal. These are stick on clear vinyl wrap decals. They go completely around the tube.

That is/was a pretty serious ladies Dawes. Looks like a taller one too.

Oh, I'm not sure. I'll likely clean it up some, take some measurements, and see what's what. It has dual cable stops under the down tube, so it was made to be a geared bike, which might help date it.

The rust looks largely superficial from here, and with the fork lamp mount and all, I think it would be worth doing up in at least Rustoleum colors -with contrasting lugs. Don't know about the chain set though.

I pulled that crankset (a Stronglight steel cottered), BB, and a clamped on cable stop. I didn't do anything with the finish, but will start with a good cleaning when I have a chance. Headset is a Stronglight Competition. It takes a 26.2 or 26.4mm seat pin (cluster ears are a bit pinched, so likely the latter), and is a 21" c-t seat tube (21.5" c-c virtual top tube). Hmm, that's my wife's size!

here is my 1986 galaxy (second owner ) . Looks very similar to the super galaxy on this thread . What makes the super "super" ? Equipment?
