Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I knew I should have done a rain ride yesterday. You just moved up a spot.

My wife bought a bunch of clearance spanish cupcake things this last week. They're good because they almost taste like they have wiskey or something like that in them... but in reality it's probably just the chemicals they use to keep them "fresh" all the way from Spain, and at the grocery store long enough that they end up on clearance for 50c a package...

The thought of setting up a similar club for a calorie counter app makes me cringe.

i made the mistake of eating a hostess "red velvet cupcake" yesterday.

it tasted like it was made entirely of chemicals. mortified.

ps: joined the stravamachine despite my lack of presence in this joint recently

You'll be picking green stuff out of your teeth all day and peeing da-glo green/yellow.

I caved and bought nice wheels. I used 'safety' as my justification for getting them. Can't be going downhill at 35-40mph and have a sub-par wheelset let go on me right? For safety? Did the 28/32 as per the 'advice' given here.

Bad news is the wheelset ships out on June 8th.. I might have to try running or hiking until then. Oof.

"No Real Location". Addiction lives within us; in the metaphysical. I joined, and barely use Strava. I suppose I will turn it on a few times, although keeping my cell phone on board may not be aero enough.. Pretty sure it will slow me down from my 21-22mph ride averages down to around 16-17.

That feels when you see people's real names on Strava and have no idea who they are on the forum. Also, the discussion thread thing there feels dirty because Billy can't regulate. It's the Wild West.

The rain never came, so I ended up taking the kiddo to the store for a few things in the trailer and decided I needed to go on a real ride. Did just over 30 miles with two loops on the "gravel section" with a little bit of mud thrown in. Good times.

So speaking of the Stravas. I got this fancy new phone and I was pleasantly surprised with the Garmin 510 sync ability. On the iPhone, it always asked me to connect, and then it often would "connect" but the app would say I wasn't connected while the 510 said I was connected. And sometimes the sync would fail, or it might say sync failed, but it actually did upload the ride, etc. Basically completely unpredictable. I would update the phone, app and firmware with little to no improvement, on and on, etc.

So on the new phone, all I did was install Garmin Connect and pair up the phone, install Strava and that was it. The phone never asked me to connect to the 510 when I turned it on and at the end of the ride, I saw the display say "uploading ride" and boom, there is was on GC and Strava. No hassle, no thinking about it. As if that was how the device was supposed to work in the first place.

I don't know, maybe I could have set it up to automatically connect on the iPhone without asking and that might have helped, but I doubt it. I never had much luck with it syncing to the iPhone. I've yet to try the live track feature again, but sans iphone the wife can't track me anymore so it might come into use again.

I've got Conti Gp 4000 II's in 28mm on my broken wheelset right now. I'll likely pull those off and put those on the Pacenti's unless there's some reason as to why I shouldn't use 28's on them.
