Really? Old bike parts are sometimes expensive. I spent $100 just for my rear axle.

I know and understand. A better smiley might have been the "tongue in cheek" one. I've been searching for a fix for a couple of broken spokes on a vintage Roval rear wheel and it looks as if my only solution is to purchase a wheelset for north of $300.

I could have provided a 6 speed Dura Ace freewheel, serviced and with great to NOS sprockets for under $100, so $150 is high, IMO.

That’s great…after the fact. With eBay, as with most vintage hard to find items, the time to buy is when you see it.

There’s a guy in France selling repro hoods for the early non-aero levers in black, brown (not gum) and white that are an excellent fit.

yeah, this build was not cheap. The cassette I bought was a bit cheaoer. I think the seller raised his price because he has whittled his supply down to just 1 left. You dont want to know how much the whole build was, I found exclusively NOS parts lol. But the way I look at is I now have a brand new, top of the line bike from 1979.

like I posted before, I paid around 120 for the cassette. When I found out my NOS 7200 hubs only fit Uniglide cassettes and after searching for days for a Dura Ace cassette that was silver and not matte or gold, I jumped at the opportunity to get that one. It fit perfectly, even with small 5 1/2inch chrome dork disc I want to put on. And yes, I am purposefully putting chrome dork discs on this build because they fit the era and I think they actually make the bike look dope. lol

So I found the 26.6 seatpost in Canada. Snatched it right up. Now the only thing that isnt period correct DA are the brake levers and I stll prefer Aero to non-Aero. Any suggestions for early Vintage Aero levers that would go well with the build??

it def is.. thanks for hanging around this thread.. the feedback from this community means alot. the bike is almost done. I have found dope brake levers that are aero and modern but have the look of the vintage dura ace. since i have the bar end shifter cables out front i wanna keep the cockpit under control with the aero levers. but it has almost reached terminal dopeness! lol

I think you and I belong to a very small, elite club: people who run matching Dura Ace stems and seatposts on their bikes!

Shimano had aero brake levers in 1980. I’ve never seen them outside of a video. Would be cool to get a set, and also some of the DA aero center pull brakes.

Very nice build! I have a DX 2000 from around 1982. In the mid 80s I sanded down a Dura ace post that was originally 27.0 to fit the frame. I still have the post. Sometimes you do what has to be done!

thanks! i think it came out pretty sweet. The cranks are just too beautiful and all the DA components really compliment the frame. Is your DX2000 chrome? I actually purchased a 27 inch seatpost before I found the 26.6 and had not considered sanding it to fit but would have def done that if need be. Last thing is the brake levers and then she is a certified garage queen. lol

It is certainly a fun project. Thank you for sharing! The DX 2000 I have actually belonged to my best friend. We both had Panasonics as teenagers. It was originally factory metallic gray paint. I put huge miles on that bike all the way up until about 1988 when I purchased a new Guerciotti. Panasonics are great quality! One day I hope to restore it as close to original as possible.

Do you still need vintage Roval spokes? I have a set of front and rear spokes and nipples/locknuts, maybe 18/24 but I'd have to check. They owe me next to nothing and I may never need them. I'm new around here and not sure I've posted enough to have PM rights but let me know exactly what you need... they are in New Zealand from where postage takes weeks not days to the USA, if that matters.

WOW! I'm blown away by your generosity and kindness! I'll be more than glad to cover this expense and can be very patient waiting for the mail. PM coming your way.

very very beautiful man! i'd never seen a dura ace panasonic online until this very moment. i registered here just to say that.

i've been slowly rebuilding my own (1986 dx-2000) with dura ace components myself. what a trip. i feel these higher end parts accentuate the little design gems on these models. very enjoyable learning for sure.! thank you for sharing.

(maybe it's time i photograph it.)
