Best set up for back injury
So about 15 years ago I had a lower lumbar fusion and a broken my tailbone. I've been riding pretty much every since with little to no discomfort or issues. However, I have recently re-injured my tailbone. After letting it heal, I am having massive discomfort and pain riding (but only when riding). I've toyed with a few different saddle positions, and I just can't get comfortable at all. I've tried moving the seat further aft, and that does nothing but cause me to have to reach too far to grab the handlebars (too much stress). If I move the seat too far fwd of course it racks my testicles. There seems to be not a very happy medium with this either. And also, I've tried riding my my saddle tilted up, down, and neutral, but haven't found what works Any advice would be super helpful.
**My main bike is a Trek FX1, but I have seen the same issues on my Colnago road bike as well as Giant Mountain Bike, so I am thinking it's more my set up than style or brand of bike I am using**

proviso - there are so many things into play with back injuries and associated, what we might suggest might be total opposite of what you need... and this IS the internet... LOL!
so
I broke my tailbone, senior HS yr... took over 1 year for the tenderness to be tolerable... how long have you allowed?
much has to do with your general 'condition' - overweight? carrying too much in the torso? flexible/core strong enough to get some forward lean? good glut strength and development or dumpy butt ? etc...
maybe try a saddle with very strong support under the sitz bones and corresponding large cutouts/trench down midline. I haven't done ANY wide ranging saddle investigation in some time, so it's on you to do the googling...
Stands too reason that the further forward you can lean, the less likely the amount of pressure on the coccyx... but pressure on the ramus, pressures the pelvis, which in turn will pressure the sacrum/coccyx - coccyx is a small bone - with a big effect when it proves trouble...
... what do you do when you have to sit on a hard chair at home? thick, soft cushion is usually not the answer - same problem, prolly same solution...
