In my experience Shimano shifts better in front and SRAM in back.
I've had a few Shimano bikes, right now I have a campy Super Record bike and a SRAM Force bike. Both have Shimano cranks though. Have a Dura Ace 7800 group saved waiting for a nice steel frame someday...

Shimano for me. SRAM are ok but my own personal experience is they seem to need more frequent adjustment as they age. Surprised how good Shimano is for their entry level groupsets (not Tourney).

As I recall back... I believe most of the bikes I've owned over the years were mostly Shimano groupsets... more by chance than me preferring Shimano.
Having said that, I've recently splurged big-time and have a bike on order equipped with SRAM Red eTap Axs. I had the option of Di2... 'hope I don't regret this!

Shimano shifters and derailleurs, SRAM chains and cassettes and crank. I have a SRAM crank for the 30mm spindle (I didn't want to mess around with adaptors), and SRAM chains and cassettes are just better.. Don't let Shimano tell you you can use SRAM chains and cassettes, and the SRAM stuff is still better than Shimano even now that Shimano has master links.
Actually, I favor SRAM, but Shimano is very good. I will have to respectfully disagree with the above post because in my experience SRAM chains suck (I choose KMC)! And, Shimano Ultegra cassettes are definitely better than the SRAM equivalent. So there you have it--I stand for quality and value. Brand loyalty be damned! With SRAM's new pricing structure, I may be riding Shimano in the future.

One thing worth mentioning when comparing Shimano and SRAM mechanical, is that Shimano uses barely enough cable pull (IMO, not really enough since 9s), so on Shimano bikes the cable system has to have a rather good signal to noise ratio in order to work properly. SRAM uses significantly more cable pull, which translates to more cable friction felt at the lever and a bigger throw to make a shift, but the indexing is far more tolerant of friction and mush. Also, barrel adjustments are a lot finer.

I was aware Shimano broke backwards compatibility with 11s, but I remember thinking why did they bother, since the increase in cable pull was tiny, I thought. I was under the impression it was more about changing the overall geometry of the RD, with a different flavour of nonlinearity to the clicks.

Vanilla vs Chocholate
dino vs synthetic
wet lube vs dry lube
BTW.. my Sram eTap sounds different since i replaced the original jockey wheels with Ceramic Speed.
So Shimano vs Sram isn't specific enough.
