Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Running One Wheelset W/Multiple Sets of Tires.

Does anybody here run one wheelset with multiple sets of tires? I've thought about looking into a second wheelset but it doesn't take me that long to swap tires on and off the wheelset. Also, I don't have to worry about getting the cassette adjusted to compensate for different cassettes on different wheelsets. Just a thought.

For me, the convenience in not having to swap tires is worth it. Also, the gearing I want on fast road tires is often different from the gearing I'd use with wider off road tires, given different terrain being ridden. So two sets of wheels also offers two sets of gearing, without the need to swap cassettes.

I'm currently doing this. I'm running Challenge Paris-Roubaix 27mm for road/commuting and switching to knobby tyres for proper gravel rides on weekends (35mm Duro Ellie Mae), no gearing change.

Been doing this for the past 4-5 weeks and It's getting annoying, so I'm considering a spare set of wheels.

I'm another one for one bike, 2 wheelsets. I got a wheelset and cassette for $200. Slightly different gearing than the other cassette, but it works "fine" without any derrailer adjistmwnt between wheels, and just a small adjustment makes it shift "really smooth".

For me, a 2-minute wheel-change is worth it.

I have a 2nd wheelset (got it used for less than $200, rotors included). It's 0.5mm off, so the mechs need adjustment as well as the brake calipers whenever I change the wheels.

Changing wide tires is quick (compared to changing narrow road tires), so the time savings wouldn't be much for normal clinchers.

But... tubeless calls for a 2nd wheelset. (Funny because I only went to tubeless on the 2nd wheelset. Shhh. Don't tell my wife.)

I've done it in the past. Whether it's practical depends on your wheels/tires, your skill, and how often you do it. If you're swapping a couple times a week, it gets pretty old. If you're just throwing on gravel tires a couple times a month, it's not a big deal. If you ever decide to run tubeless, it becomes pretty impractical and a second wheelset starts to look like a really good investment.

I might swap throw on my gravel tires once or twice a month if that. I might do this for the immediate future until I can find the right wheelset that fits my needs.

A second wheelset takes about 30 seconds to swap, assuming that the brake pads don't need to be adjusted or swapped. And as others have said, it's nice to have a different cassette too.

Sounds like a PITA. I just settled on one set of tires that suit me as a reasonable compromise for pavement, gravel and grass. I like Continental Speed Rides (Conti Cyclocross Speed tires are narrower and lighter). Smooth riding enough at around 60 psi for pavement without feeling sluggish, soft enough for gravel when run with a bit less pressure (40-50 psi), and they dig into dry or damp grass well enough to climb the grassy levees and similar moderate off-road stuff I find locally.

But there are several similar tires with shallow diamond or file tread on the main contact surface and knobbies along the edges for digging into grass or tougher terrain. Clement tires look good, but cost a bit more.

I might just run my Ritchey Speedmax's as an all around tire. They seem to roll alright on the road and do well in gravel. If I really wanted to tackle muddy or singletrack terrain, I have the Kenda Kwickers that came with my bike I can throw on ( this might be a couple times a year if anything.) One highlight of the Speedmaxes is they are really easy to get on/off the wheels.

you can buy 1 new front wheel & 2 new rear wheels (sell the rear wheel that's on the bike now) this way, after you adjust for the new wheel(s) you won't have have any adjustments when you go back & forth due to tire desires

or just get a 2nd bike!

As long as they're not glued on Sew-ups, I don't see any issue, ... other than time involved,

and potentially damaging the tire bead with sharp tools or technique shortcomings.

I would not. I would and do and always have either had extra wheel sets or bicycles or both. J
