Well, it might make you feel better to know that mine is worth $166.

Maybe I should cash out now, before the bubble bursts.

Set your browser to clear cache and history when you exit and see if you still get those ads.

Amen to this, as NPR will ALWAYS be funded.

They've got some pretty big people behind them (this is a colossal understatement) who are buying "consent" for the largest sort of legislation, deals and power-grabs that one can imagine.

Since I posted a thread about the use of a Bissell steam cleaner yesterday, now my ads are from Bissell instead of an attractive girl in a tight t-shirt. Very disappointing. Maybe I should start a thread about a particularly salacious Y-foil and see how it affect the ads I see...

I can think of some other news outlets that do the same (or at least try really hard), but this wouldn't be the right forum to discuss it much more.

Totally in agreement here. The MSM's (NPR included) news views are essentially all the same, though most peddling commerce in addition to consent. While I donated to NPR in the now-distant past, the others haven't asked for my money, they use advertising to get money.

Last edited by dddd; 09-04-14 at 09:02 PM. Reason: peddling was pedaling, lol.

Are many of the vast array of "forums" related in some way, perhaps as compared to those that end with only "forum"?

Also wondering how big of a company it is that is running this and perhaps other forums??

What city is headquarters for the bikeforums entity?

Is bikeforums offered in different languages?

It surprises me somewhat that I don't know any of the answers to these questions.

So, who is bikeforums?

Other forums don't do this. The content of your posts belongs to you except for this place. Keep it in mind in case you ever want to publish a book on information that you posted here.

Joe Gardner founded the site and then passed it on several years ago.

He married Shadiyah and rode off into the sunset.

I personally feel the membership fees on Bike Forums are well worth it. For $10/year, you aren't bombarded by ads, you can post items for sale, and you help support the website. I get a lot of value from this website in terms of information, education, entertainment and "companionship" with like-minded individuals. I get more value from the $10 spent to support this website than I do eating out at a fast food restaurant, getting a drink at a coffee shop or buying a subscription to Bicycling magazine.

I'm not going to pretend to know what IB's motivations are in owning this site, but I like this forum a lot and I don't mind paying $20 every two years to use it without advertising. I'm assuming that they forego advertising revenue for my use and I don't mind them compensating with a pretty low membership.

I understand where MJ is coming from, but I just don't really mind companies making a profit (assuming they are) providing a service I use daily.

Joe "grandfathered" early supporters in while those decisions were still his to make.
