50 mile ride on saturday
Shooting do complete the 50 mile ride on Saturday in Delaware at the Amish Delaware Ride. I am a little nervous about it and hope I can do all of it.
I thnk if I pace myself, eat right, hydrate and take advantage of the stops to stretch, I think I can do it.

You can do it. Its half mental. I did my first 50 miler yesterday and the last 10 sucked, but I knew it was the only way to get back to my truck.

My first 50 this year was brutal; ran out of food and water at mile 40, by the time I got home I had stopped sweating completely (it was 90 out).
You've got better temperatures though, so just remember to eat early and keep drinking, even if you're not thirsty. You'll do fine.

I think you will be fine. Be sure to eat something solid about 60% into your ride.
I say this from experience on centuries. I do 50 to 60 with no problem, don't even need a bar. Ona century, I plan a bar then at mile 65-70, I will feel tired. If I eat something at 60, that feeling is limited then later at mile 80-100, I feel great. A turkey sandwich (served on tough climbing centuries) is great but so is a cheeseburger. Seriously, I ate a quarter pounder with cheese, salty fries and I was good to go!
So if 50 is your 100, eat something solid at mile 30.
If you skip this tip, you'll suffer near the end.

Absolutely you can do it. Short stops -- long ones you stiffen up and they don't really help. Move around, get up out of the saddle now and then. Take enough water and enough nutrients. I went through a big bottle of gatorade on my 58 mile ride last weekend, and bought more at a country store. Had my lock and lights and all. Big mistake -- take what you need and no more. But you'll do it. Just keep pedaling.

You can do it. I agree with the advice so far, stay hydrated, eat something along the way, short stops when you need them and be mentally tough. On my first 50 miler, having a "can do" attitude helped me get through the hard parts. I found miles 35 to 45 to be the toughest. Once I hit mile 45 I knew I was going to make it and it made those last five miles fly by. Good luck and keep pedaling.

I'm doing my first 50 later this month, so yesterday I was out on a 35 mile training ride. As it happened, I hadn't eaten or drank anything that day - just hadn't gotten around to it. So I finished the ride feeling a bit wrung out and ready for sustenance - only to find out that all of San Diego was without power for the next eight hours! Nothing in the fridge at home, either. I finally got something to eat around midnight; after serious consideration of the can of cat food in the cupboard.
