Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh well int that case you will be fine, unless they switch your gate into a different terminal last minute. Then you won’t be fine.

That has happened twice to me, but the commuting gods are rarely in my favor. I’m sure you will be fine.

My lovely wife is very creative. That pond began its life as a pool, but we didn't use it. It has a wrap around natural filtration system, on two sides, made up of gravel and plant roots, with water pumped through the gravel. A closed system with a skimmer and 'Skippy Filter' at the pump entrance.
It's a delightful place to live. And she is a delightful person to live with.

I kind of expected that you lived in a place that was, shall we say, a bit more rustic.

Yes. I sleep out in the cooler center in the hot season. Cool season I'm in my room, which doubles as a bike shop. A hammock doesn't take up much space and can be easily and quickly.moved. I'm in that hammock as we speak. It's my La Z Boy during the day.

Haven't been on the bike for a bit over a week due to a muscle pull or something. Was going to knock out early to hit the road, but it just started raining. :-(

Strava is fake.

That said, you can take a look at the ride in question and you'll get a pretty good idea if the numbers are legit... cycling looks different from running, and I'd assume similarly that e-bikes look different from cycling, in terms of metrics and speed. Or maybe it was an iPhone left on for the drive home.

Define "normal."

I'm sure we are all abnormal in one way or another. I've often said that all families are dysfunctional; it's just a matter of degree.

I just put the Garmin computer in the car and drive around.

I saw a local rider's Strava posting for a route in my area, and had a hard time believing that he could maintain a 28 mph pace over 50+ miles in an area with some steep hills. Guy is in his 60s, but a pretty active rider. But, that's about twice as fast as I (and everybody I know) can cover that route. I'm either a real wimp or something was amiss.

I have not dived into it. I don’t live in that part of town anymore and I am not going there just to get the segment back. I wasn’t even fast when I got that KOM just strange I held it for so long.

A while back, when I started looking for places for us to retire, I was looking around the area of PA where I grew up. In response, Mrs. GJ started sending me Zillow listings from the area where SHE grew up. Here's the thing, though - her family is from Corry PA, near Erie, which is the city that "Marketplace" on NPR always uses as THE example of the depressed Rust Belt city where all the manufacturing jobs have gone away and nobody wants to live there anymore.

So, last night I watched a video on YouTube, "The 10 Worst Towns In Pennsylvania". Corry was number 9. I haven't mentioned this to her yet....

Marriage, mortgage, career, kids, debt. I got married at 38. None of the rest. I didn't even manage to graduate college.
I can assure you I would not have been a suburban dad. Likely a small aircraft mechanic. I was on my way to Guatemala for my annual winter trip when I met my wife. The following Spring I planned to head to Alaska to look for work. I had the licenses.

Not me. I know what side my butt is breaded on.

Unsurprisingly, old steel towns were top of the list. Like Steelton, and Ambridge, and Aliquippa. The one positive thing you could say about most of them is that housing is cheap, but oddly, in one of them even that wasn't true.
